Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Young people still love working here

No matter how many people leaves and how many are cut by the company AT&T will always have plenty of people to choose from as replacements. Younger generations (20-somethings) still love working here. Ask any of the new hires, nine out of ten will gush about their jobs. It provides what they need, whether we like it or not. And for as long as that's true, nothing will change.

they love it because they don't need to know anything, or do anything, and even though they still live with their parents it stops the complaining about them spending all day on the couch gaming.

That’s why the call centers are losing a hundred people per month cuz T is such a great place to work!

Heck yeah!

I hear you OP - I often remember my roaring twenties.

Gonna live forever, gonna be rich, gonna change the world!

I miss those days - life is more fun when you are still stupid and naive.

Give it time, you will outgrow it - you won't want too - but like hair loss, it happens nonetheless.

This is Stink's vision for T: a place where turnover is high and barely anyone gets more than 5 years tenure.

The problem is, it takes a few years before one can actually gain the actual hands-on knowledge needed to do the job well, so depending on a constant cycle of new graduate hires may help keep cost down, but it destroys the functioning of the company.

Having nothing but a bunch of younger workers is as bad as having nothing but older workers. The younger workers don't understand existing processes, etc and try to be 'disruptive' -- which really means they don't know what they're doing yet but trying their best. Meanwhile, having just oldsters means things get quickly stuck in a rut and innovation can suffer.

But hey, since when did Stinky actually care about the long-term health of the company? He's here for maybe another 5 years collecting his millions and when he's gone he's gone.

Now that's leadership!

Oh just go away! People accept positions for various reasons which have nothing to do with your personal perception of the corporations you choose to hate. Their life, their choice. We’re not stupid or misguided and it has zip to do with your weak, failed attempts of vitriol to convince us that ATT has nothing to offer.
Time for you to leave or shut up. How about both!

Not sure where OP works, plenty of college hires came and left. They might have been happy to work here, but most found better opportunities else where. Talent retention rate is terrible, and not just for the 20 year old's.

Ir's true. They'll never have trouble finding people to work here. There are tens of millions of people out there who crave being told what to think, what to do, how to do it, etc. They thrive on conformity and "compliance" (a top ten favorite AT&T word). They're not necessarily stupid, it's just that there's something missing in their personalities. A term that describes them well but seems to have fallen out of favor is "sheeple." If you want to see specific individuals who probably fall into this category, just look up the people who posted gushing comments about Stankey's video. They like it here. And no matter how sh it ty a place to work this becomes, they'll continue to. And there are lots more out there on the street just dying to get in.

Exactly why they wanted to get rid of the veterans. You’ll never know how bad your getting screwed over financially and you don’t know how screwed up the company is......because you weren’t around when it was well ran!! Truth be told ...anybody who knew anything about the business is long gone! You don’t even know YOUR clueless!!

And if you could run a large, complex, organization that requires deep knowledge of complex technology to provide customers with service with idealistic but inexperienced new hires it might work. Sadly for the Stankster, it doesn't work that way. It might work in marketing and finance but fresh faced noobs won't keep a network up and working. This company isn't just financial shenanigans and branding. Unfortunately, customers demand a working network with reliable systems to maintain it.

Very true. With PTO and wages being the only true benefits left, it suits them fine. They know going in that there is no pension, post retirement healthcare, or any other post retirement benefits coming their way. Hopefully all will live beneath their means to accumulate enough wealth to sustain them in retirement.
