Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

We regret to inform you that this position has been canceled

I had 10+ internal job applications lingering on without a status update for months. All of a sudden I started getting the calculation emails. I guess this is the third one over the past few days.

Anyone experiencing the same?

Are all the cancelations a sign of things to come?

Something IS going on. Open positions are being used to fulfill some of the layoff target. Common practice.

Canceled or moved to a third world country.

The recruiters are def milling them over before sending. I actually got into an argument once because i wasn't receiving any resumes and couldn't figure out why. The hr rep said they didn't see any they thought were a good fit. I told him thats my job not his since he has no clue what my team actually does. Got about 20 resumes within a couple days of that talk i had with him.

For anything beyond the letter grades you have no choice but to go around HR in order to move. You either need to know that you have the job before you apply, or you need to negotiate an in place promotion with your manager. Go to a Career Day, attend the breakout sessions and listen to the HR folks actually brag about how they cull out the resumés. And it isn’t a rational process in the least.

Which companies actually care about their employees? I'd like to know.

I have received 2-3 additional calculation emails since the initial post.

To be clear, these are not "we passed on you". These are "the position has been CANCELED".

To all of a sudden, after months of not hearing anything, start getting them back-to-back like that, I'm thinking there's something going on at the C-suite level...

I will follow up on a couple of the prior replies.

First, in regards to seeking employment internally. I totally agree with the person that said you should be looking external. What makes you think any other department within the company is going to be better?

Second, the comment regarding you finding 10+ jobs being a good fit being a surprise. I also agree with that post, and it honestly leads me to believe that you are probably applying to jobs that you don't qualify for OR are over qualified for just to get out of your current situation. That is a bad sign and likely looked down upon by the recruiters. Of course they are id--ts, but they are the ones that are responsible for getting your resume into the manager's hands. Some managers want to see ALL applicants, but other applicants have the recruiters send them the top candidates. If you are annoying them by applying to everything, your resume is not going to make it to the manager.

Very common. Cut a req vs cut a body. The fact that you found 10+ positions that were a fit for you to post to is what is surprising considering how many spots didn’t even make far enough to be posted.

If you are already there, why are you not trying to get out? This company has gone downhill for quite sometime now. Layoffs will surely come January 2022, put your resume out there and try to find another company that cares about their employees. Believe me, I worked there and am glad I am no longer an employee for this company. No loyalty to it's employees, raises are considered a joke and diversity is just for show. Get out while you can. Good luck...
