I was under the impression that I'd be walked out after giving in my notice. It didn't happen since they expect me to train several people before I leave. This messed up my plans but luckily my new employer understood when I had to push my start date by a week. At least I hope that's true. I guess I'll know in ten days.

@OP - you owe nothing. You provided services, were paid contractually for them, to whatever END DATE you select. It’s time for everyone to stop being a robot. Certainly you did not get anything extra for staying longer (outside of said paycheck). Time off is good for the mind, body, soul, family and you.
I gave my notice with no advance.
They did expect a training handover.
My supervisor can do that.
Once they suspended my computer account - that day - my lawyer (cousin) informed them that all separation requirements were satisfied on My side.
Now They had to satisfy their side.
She's watching this like a hawk - getting into labor law a little.
No matter how you separate - they got lot's of work to do.
And money/benefits to pass along.
A guy on our team quit ti go work for a competitor in the Permian and our "leaders" made him stay so he could train his replacement. He stayed a week waiting for them to find a replacement and when they couldn't took some vacation days to get stuff done for his move. Still didn't get replacement until after two weeks were up. LOL!

I wouldn’t have given notice, and even if I had, I wouldn’t have delayed my start date at my next next job in order to train anyone at the place that I was leaving.
You are quitting just surf the web all day and work from home. Why would u care at this point. Or come in the office at 9 and leave at 3 and work at a leisurely pace. If they walk you out they have to pay the remainder of the 2 weeks.

Unless you need the money (and you shouldn’t) , you don’t have to give them two weeks, you don’t have to give them two hours. Why on earth would you risk hurting yourself with your new employer?
It's supervisor discretion if you get shown the door immediately or continue working the full 2 weeks.
They were okay with me working my 2 weeks also. Changing industry, though. I think it’s good to perform a handover on work items
Did you tell them where you were going? I’ve heard the trick to leaving immediately while still giving 2 weeks notice was to NOT tell them where you are going. This makes them turtle and believe you to be an immediate threat to the company.
If you refuse to disclose where you are going to work after giving notice, you will most likely be walked out.
@rhh It's within my two weeks, so that's not the issue. But I was under the impression that people who quit don't have to work out their two weeks - that's what everybody who quit who I talked to told me. I made a mistake and planned accordingly. I just wanted to let people know not to rely on that.

Are you working for a competitor? I’ve only heard of the company walking people out if they go to a legitimate competitor. And even then, there can be exceptions.
Do you really not like your current team to the extent you’d leave them to pick up your extra work without training someone to replace you?
The company you're about to resign from "expects" you to train your replacements? Fu-k that. If sticking around to train people interferes with your plans and next job, then XOM can fu-k off. You don't owe them jack sh-t. Leave as soon as possible and never look back. Congrats on getting out of the sh-t show.
Once you give your notice the company cannot keep you beyond the date that you told them that you were going to resign.
