I had to lay someone off and it still bothers me. I was informed by my boss of who was being laid off. Bs reason was it was location related but it was about making a number for MM and the Funky bunch. Have to show RoI for that comp package I guess. Anyway, totally out of the blue for me and more importantly the employee. That changed my opinion of Cisco. Really screwed someone who completely caught off guard. It can and does happen.

There is no LR planned on Aug 18th....you guys are going to be disappointed! Company is doing well, H/C & expenses in line with revenue. Nothing to worry about other than worry itself.

I was at Cisco over 20+ years - this is annual process - on vacation August 2nd and got a calendar year invitation for “business planning”. Very quick call thanking me for 2 decades + of service, letting me know I no longer had a job position and saying they’d be in touch with steps to take.

I wouldn’t have asked for this - I’d grown up Cisco - but looking back I am grateful. Life is good post - CSCO. I miss many people but not the nepotism, huge ego and politics.

If you suddenly see a meeting invite from your boss with no agenda popping up, something along the lines of ‘1:1’ or ‘business update’ then DO NOT ACCEPT it. Just ignore it, don’t join. When your boss calls, don’t pick up the phone. Don’t reply to instant messages. Keep working though. I know a guy who survived another 6 months that way! Your boss will have to tell HR you’re unreachable but that you seem to be working. They’ll be puzzled. Have a bit of fun and see how long you can drag it.

While this is a fun concept, this is total BS. You do not know a guy who survived another 6 months. If you can't be reached for a meeting or a phone call, they will simply mail the "package" that your manager would have handed you in the meeting, as well as emailing it to you, and they'll send it registered receipt so they know it was delivered.

At the end of your 30 days, your employment will be terminated and your badge/login ID will be revoked. Congratulations, you just worked for 30 days you could have been paid to do nothing and look for a new job and you forfeited your severance pay because you didn't sign the paperwork.

Stupid. I hope that was a sarcastic post hoping some stupid iD10t will follow your suggestion and lose their severance package.

For you new to this company, this is a yearly event. Only residents from rich countries should be concerned.

When do we expect getting our 1:1's

When the LR is announced on the 18th during the earnings call, your manager (if in the US) will probably send you the 1:1 invite that evening for first thing the next morning.

That's what happened to me back in '16.

Manager told us all to listen to the earnings call around 4:00PM ET and left for the day. The earnings call started at 4:30PM ET and the LR was announced between 4:45-5:00PM. I received my 1:1 invite by 5:30PM that night for 8:30AM the next morning.

My manager would not answer his mobile or respond to any text messages. The invite just said "Meeting". Not 1:1, or any other agenda.
