Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Better or Worse than six years ago???

I retired about six years ago as a non-Texas management employee with 30 years. I thought the environment for the ten years prior to retirement was very toxic but it seems like things have only gotten worse based on the comments on this website. I would be interested in what current management employees and more recent retires think - UP arrow better, DOWN arrow worse.

If you comment I would be interested in what specifically is better or worse. Is it better in Dallas than other places? More job security?

I thought July 2020 had to be "rock bottom" when they told thousands of (management) employees your off the books in two weeks don't bother trying to find an opening since there are none. That 2 weeks was an absolute freak show....Figure out your next life in two weeks and oh, btw, train those who will be left in the trenches holding the bag. The following two weeks had conference calls with HR on how to exit the company where the thousands of questions went unanswered. HR literally hung up on the employees asking all the pertinent questions during the calls. At the same time your coworkers need allot of questions answered. Well like I said, 2 week freak show!

Morrel of the story; Make your exit plans and know your bennies because when it happens you'll get no answers!

I ask, how could it get any worse than "rock bottom"?

OP: "This site is no place to get a consensus about working conditions, it is overrun with trolls... They waste a lot space doing nothing but throwing out useless insults that trash leadership instead of offering thoughtful commentary..."

You've got to be kidding. T wastes so much employee energy and company money it's unreal. Their inability to plan for any significant length of time is stunning. Did you forget the T-Mobile debacle? Leadership steers a company but employees know what's really going on. Leadership needs to recognize when their execution goes haywire and not waste employee resources. You're silly.

I'm surprised people are saying it's worse. I thought that it's getting better myself. Huh.

Monitor badge swipes
log every key stroke of people
cut benefits and vacation
lose billions on buy high sell low
Diversions like Domain2 , SDN , Xander
Quantum !!
Several rounds of lay offs and rebadging
Tons of money lost on contractors fresh out of college

My Gosh, Man! You retired 6 years ago and you’ve still got it on for ATT?!? Seek intervention. Seriously! It’s time to find hobbies or something else to keep your mind active. Ge-z

In response to the comment, ‘ATT will be another Lordstown’….truly ignorant comment.
The last administration flat out lied to Americans claiming his tax cuts to corporations would generate jobs for businesses like ATT (it didn’t) and bring back GM jobs to Lordstown (it didn’t). Corporations took full advantage of billions handed to them in tax breaks—a gift handed to them by 45. Who benefited from that gift….? It was the shareholders and stakeholders.
So if you want to provide facts (and you might not); it was a political lie easily swallowed by many American voters. Know the facts….

Much worse than 6 years ago. That is when Ratty began his reign of te---r. Stink escalated T's toxic environment to new levels. There is a reason they both top the CEO Wall of Shame. Nobody cares that he is the worse CEO since Bernie Ebbers. He S C R E W S over shareholders, customers and employees. Certainly not controled to any degree by the BoD, or T's largest shareholder, BlackRock.

If there is any doubt, let me assure you be VERY thankful you were gone before this all started. It saved you untold heartache and abuse.

In my organization, BFS, 1st level managers are clueless, rarely come to work, mostly working from home. Not sure what in Gods name they’re doing at home! They never do ride along quality checks with their techs, you never see them, they don’t respond to emails...it’s just brutal! My Super is completely apathetic, disinterested in learning the business, disengaged and basically doing as little as possible just to keep that check coming. This company has gone to the cr----r and doesn’t seem to show any signs of improvement! PMs are over worked, not sending out equipment, scheduling mistakes, not sending the correct equipment...a total debacle! BFS is becoming a disaster in the making!

Never look back. Yes, T is more toxic than ever. Debt is out of control, can't see the company ever being able to survive long term. We trudge on!

This site is no place to get a consensus about working conditions, it is overrun with trolls (though I suspect it is probably only a handful of people who make the most troll posts.) They waste a lot space doing nothing but throwing out useless insults that trash leadership instead of offering thoughtful commentary.
I have been here 30 years and everywhere I have been there have always been discontents who resent authority of any kind and B&M about everything. A similar subset is always of the opinion that anything their bosses tell them is gold and blindly laud the company and its (always shifting) culture and goals. Most everybody else knows that things aren't always perfect, but we do the best we can with what we've got and then go home and don't worry about AT&T any more than our immediate situation requires.

I'm L2 no bargained for, been here 25+ years. It's significantly worse over the last 6 years.
The culture is non existent, except for toxicity. Long ago were the days where there were any type of team building events, barbeques, etc. etc. Not that those types of things are terribly important to me, but when you look around and see companies that still do that type of thing and actively TRY to keep their employees engaged, happy, feeling part of a team...it brings you back to those days, and you realize it was kind of nice. At this point it's strictly a paycheck. Executive leadership is absolutely loathed and untrustworthy. Until there are changes at that level I don't see things improving any.

Curious why you’re wondering after 6 years? Unsure about your decision?

It’s seems to be getting worse. The bathrooms used to be cleaned weekly, now monthly if lucky. Most managers stink a lot also.
