Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

MIT

I'm currently in a MIT role in Colorado. I have noticed my position (meat lead) is open for other to apply. Is this legal? what happens if I can't find a manager position, shouldn't I fall back to my old position?

Assistant here. I love my job and the security it brings. Couldn’t pay me about to be a TL, they get the short end of the stick. However, yes you can be without a management job as an MIT. 1) might not be any more positions 2) an individual may not be a good fit for management. But you should top out at whatever hourly position you may get afterwards. We don’t hold hourly positions because an MIT may not work out. It’s a long program and business still needs to run.

Please don't let these people lie to you. A Meat Lead at 22 an hour can average 10 hours of overtime a week and still not equal a manager's pay. Why? A little thing called bonus. Signing bonuses. Sam's shares. Did I mention RPZ?

You can make good money as a lead but it does not compare to a salary.

I think you’re being a little harsh. The person you’re replying to is probably telling them to pick the safe option, which would be keeping the lead position. The meat lead in my club makes $22 an hour and racks up all the overtime they want. They probably make more than a new manager starts out at. Plus you never know if you’ll have a job by this time next year as a manager since this company likes to restructure every first quarter in an attempt to save money.

When I did MIT a few months ago, not much changed from my normal day to day Fresh TL routine. I spent 3 days learning claims, and 3 days learning accounting. The GM never opened my lead position, and really just kept it hush hush that I was in MIT. And when it was over the only thing that changed was I didn't have to wear a polo and I slipped back into my role.

Why are people so eager to see people step down and fall down? "If I were you I'd keep the lead position and not MIT"

Why? So they can be complacent in life like you? So they can stay earning less than 50k a year like you? So they can spend the rest of their days talking about what they 'shoulda coulda woulda' been like you?

If anyone has the audacity to improve or upgrade their career, you should applaud them, not discouraged them. Be mad at the company all you want but that's no reason to drag other people down. And if you think the company really is so bad that you would advise people to step down, why don't you just leave and find another place to work?

They are supposed to fill your role, but it should just be a temp fill until MIT ends. Or that is what they told me when I went MIT. They didn't end up filling mine because Covid hit so my MIT was spent doing my old job anyway since you know you can't travel to other stores to train during a pandemic.

Yes, it is legal. You will not be forced out of the MIT position so do not worry. If you have a good Market team, you should be spending 2 weeks in each area of the club before shadowing your CM. Even after that, keep digging in so by the time a salaried position opens up, you'll be all the more familiar not just with all of Fresh, but of Merchandising/Backroom, Membership/Front End, Optical, Pharmacy, TBC, and Fuel not to mention all of the manager specufic duties you'll have to do like Hazwaste, workday functions, AP core, etc.

Use your time in MIT wisely and best of luck to you!

If I were you, I’d get out of the MIT program and keep the lead position.
