Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

KC says Derby is on pause. We all saw that coming.

Moving an entire petrotech infrastructure onto Azure? Of course that wouldn't be easy. It took more than a year to transition from EPOS to Petrel! SLB was not originally a M$ partner... Who do you think paid for all of this cloud R&D? Chevron. Oh well.

Going from the 2 platforms to 1 was a total of 3 years?!? Maybe 4? and the appropriate amount of funding provided to support this in my opinion.

There was a guy . . he's gone now . . . people like him are few and far between now. MW was in SR, then the Bakersfield, then to Houston in about 2017. He was front and center for the IX effort and personally I thought he was a key reason that it went as well as it did.

So now, he and a lot of others with his decades of experience not just in the technology but also change management (he was never in IT!!!) are gone. That's a key reason.

The shortcoming that continues in CVX is people think these are IT projects, when that is just a very small component of what needs to go on. As long as IT people are in control of these efforts they will seriously under-deliver. I have no idea what KC had to say, and no need to share, but unless future efforts put the PM in the right place (not in IT) and provide high quality change management support from someone like MC (don't know where he is now) who supported RM function for 10 years, the effort will under-deliver.

How do these companies keep falling for the same tricks by the vendors.

We spend tons of money to get modern but it’s makes it worse for years during the transition. Why not wait let someone else develop it and refine it then we can just use it.
