Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How did your enthusiasm for working here disappear?

I don’t know if BNY Mellon cares about that at all, but I think the largest percentage of employees don’t have any enthusiasm for their job here at all anymore and are less and less engaged. The day I said enough was enough and I wouldn’t care at all anymore was when I found out that two colleagues who were fantastic employees were cut. These people were passionate and in love with their work, they subordinated their private lives to bring value here... but Mellon decided to cut them and keep some that weren't even half as good. I can't simply ignore such injustice. They laid off employees that any serious employer would try to keep at all costs. Since then, I don't care at all anymore and I only work the bare minimum.

Once going above and beyond (working early/late, weekends, during vacation periods, etc...) became and expectation instead of an appreciated effort.

My enthusiasm disappeared not even a month in when I was hired.

Basically lost all hope with management in terms of leadership. Seems like this is a trend with other senior managers at this place too....

@1ucn, you're delusional if you think you're getting more than 1 or 2 percent next year. And maybe a $1500 bonus.

For those of you thinking you are getting a raise in 2022, think again!

When they started to give senior positions to completely incompetent people.
And by senior I mean leading a department and on EC.
It became very clear they don’t value talent.

@1hmu I totally concur with your attitude. Although lately I've been striving to work BELOW the bare minimum...I just don't care.

Any future I have with this org is going to be dependent on how much they open ther pockets come "raise" time early next year.

BNY managements don't care about me, why should I care about them? I only do the bare minimum to get a paycheck.

I used to work too hard because of a sense of solidarity with team mates and knowing if I don’t plug the ho-e someone else has to make up the slack.
My current team we’ve reached an agreement that we do what we can do in our normal hours and no one is staying late to make up for the decisions management have taken. None of us then have to have the guilt or burden of seeing your peers suffer.
They’ve absolutely cut teams to the bone and refuse to back fill so there will be consequences but why should I care, they clearly don’t. We just look out for ourselves now. They need to see the consequences of their actions rather than people trying to hide the real situation by doing crazy OT.
