Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Younger employees getting better assignments

Instead of using those of us who've been here far longer and who have more experience, Nike is determined to give all the best assignments to younger employees and leave the rest of us looking for things to do. It's like they're holding up a sign that reads "just f*g leave!"

@1dpj+1cEmu58k - you're either super inefficient or doing work that doesn't matter or not extracting yourself from bullish*t meetings that are a waste of time. PS if you're making keynote or ppt decks to present to management showing how hard you and your team work, then I really don't feel sorry for you.

@OP depends what area of the business you work in. In my experience I’ve seen a department that views tenure as a negative and scoffs at Nike experience hiring externals to do roles that require 2 years of onboarding just to be able to do what’s minimally needed… meanwhile in a different department tenure is all that matters and older employees share knowledge with teammates that is completely out dated and incorrect. Bottom line - the company is inconsistent

Older employees are more expensive, especially if you've worked at the company for years. They use more medical insurance due to age and having families, and get paid to not work for weeks out of the year (even more if there's a sabbatical). They want them out of there because younger employees see this and think that what they're going to get as well.

Wait a minute, OP. Are there actually people at Nike who have little or no work to do??? How is that even possible? I have to constantly put in 60+ hour work weeks just to barely stay caught up. Even then it is sometimes not enough. It’s the same with most of my teammates.

What part of the company contains these cush jobs where there are people sitting around with no work to do? And no offense but why are those areas of the company so richly staffed? Do they really need as many people as they have? Would I be correct to guess those are the same areas of the company that get hit hardest when layoffs come?

@1pik or you haven’t yet dealt with the arrogance & lying of LT, who after they use you for your experience & knowledge, throw you under the bus for their gain. Fingers crossed that’s not what happens to you too my friend.

Or you have no clue what you are doing so assignments are going to someone else willing to learn.

@OP, that was the most pathetic statement I have seen in a long time.

It's the same at many companies and Nike is no exception. It's the group think of the corporate world that age, experience and competence are negatives. It is just more blatant than it used to be. My solution is to stick around and milk the cow until one of us makes a foolish move and it's game over.
