Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Hard work is actually worth it?

Or is hard work not enough?
Some people try to act cool, as if they’re not afraid of losing their job, but I really care to keep it. I know it’s not the best and I know there are a lot better options but it’s important to me at this time to stay here for a while longer. I worked as hard as I could, I did my best. The atmosphere is so tense that every day I expect them to tell me I am not needed anymore. Even though some people say it's not worth anything, I still hope it's still a bit important if someone worked very hard.

Hard work? No way. My team does the bare minimum. Not taking advantage of us. When a larger audit came up we hired an intern to do the work. That’s the way it is. Don’t let this Corp take advantage of you. It’s the ones that put in the extra hours and forgo PTO that seem to be let go. I’ve been with the Corp for 10 years and never worked overtime. Still here with good reviews and bonus each year.

It was vile and amoral, a huge corporatist land mass place chock filled with imbeciles who believed the hard work capitalistic propaganda/nonsense. Give them the minimum and bail.

After being let go after 20 years, the answer is NO. Whatever let’s you sleep at night and spend time doing what you love, focus on. EOD, you don’t matter to corporate, in fact they don’t want you

Hard work?! For what? Fraud Street? Shareholder hustling? Huckster americans? For the miniscule amount of people who are awake, which is only around 2%, and that's being generous-most know that hard work=a US corporate clown. Most people from our own experiences, no matter what dept etc. are completely gleefully unaware and voluntarily uninformed. There's no hope. THEY HAVE WON. And we're OK with that. Those who give up their freedom in exchange for "security" deserve neither. Let them "enjoy" that cesspool of hamster wheeling for profiteering off of the sick and infirm.

I’d love to say yes, but sometimes it’s just pure & simple financials. Hard work cannot compete with how much money they can save to eliminate or offshore your position. I would say keep working hard & if your position is eliminated, then maybe you could still get good letter of recommendation for your next position.

It's worth it until the stress starts affecting your health...and it will in time. I felt calm and in control of my career until this year. For the first time ever I am having panic attacks. Learn and gain skills, expand your network, then do what is best for you.

I have worked in various departments of optum and uhg for 10 years. Yes. Hard work does matter. many of my co-workers were let go through the years. if the company is going to move a position offshore or get rid of a department there's not much you can do. if they're keeping a position where it is then work hard, keep quiet, and focus on your job instead of gossip. some of my co-workers were let go because the positions were offshored or moved to a different location. some were let go because the vp/director wanted to bring in their buddies. but many were let go because they couldn't do the job or were more interested in gossiping.
