Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

They easily give up the best performers to competitors.

Yet another one of the best performers is gone. It didn’t surprise me too much because it happens all the time that the best ones are leaving.

I just wonder what kind of company this will be become when people who are now the best performers leave?

Who will replace them?

Will Schwab ever be able to attract such employees who are now being very easily surrendered to competitors?

The best performers either already left voluntarily or were cut in one of the layoff rounds. So congrats. This means you are a loser. Look to your virtual left and right. They are also here. And therefore are losers as well.

I'm ok with getting a paycheck, waiting around for change, provided the paycheck is right size. I have no problems with that.

Wow - I appreciate your frankness from the previous person. You are right - people like you are the good ones that will move on - not everyone wants a paycheck for waiting around for change or to work and make a difference. Schwab manages by consensus so it takes a while for changes to occur - even when the changes should be immediate. That is what will hold back those smart ones and go-getters and eventually encourage them to leave, which is also why integration will take years@

I was a "top performer" who left Schwab fairly recently. It was not because of my direct leadership (I liked my boss) but instead the stagnation I saw all around me. Eventually, motivated people who want to get sh-t done get tired of waiting around for approval from the overlords or for a decision from a consortium that grows every time a meeting is scheduled. It's exhausting and mind numbing. I have better things to do with my time.

The assumption here is remote work equals disengagement. This may not be true. Working remote and poor leaders may have led top performers to hang in there longer than would be otherwise

It seems true when people say that top performers don't quite the company. They quit because of their direct leaders. When employees are not engaged and feel like they have a career ahead, they eventually let go of hope and begin looking outside the company. Schwab is a sponsor and financial contributor to the CDC, so they bend the knee to whatever the vaccine overlords tell them to do. If you couple being disengaged and working remote, it is hard to feel you are a member of a team. People are leaving for all kinds of reasons...
