Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

State of Cisco as of Sept 2021

  1. No, there are no 2021 layoffs planned.
  2. Cisco is an average company - may be slightly below average. Which is not that bad. Expect below average compensation. That is still ok. Networking with bosses/directors may help a little but not much.
  3. Expect below average increase in stock price over next 12 months span. Average = NASDAQ.
  4. No one really cares about your survey. You can say bad things about execs, nothing is going to happen to you (except you may feel good to get it out of your system). They will analyze survey and conclude nothing or they will act on nothing that they conclude. Action based on you input was never an intent of the survey.
  5. Do not even think of an innovation. That talk is to make you feel good. Innovations happens in start ups (or companies like FAANG) & Cisco acquires start ups & hence need no innovations. This fact is known for many years. Sometimes you may get fooled (like I did couple times) by innovation talks Also, they have some meaningless competitions. Do not waste your time unless you want to be entertained.
  6. Much easier to focus on work/life balance at Cisco compared to FAANG. Let FAANG employees works hard and earn more. Do not get jealous. Be content.

This is one big company where don't just LR'd they are made to quit. Luckily there are better and far bigger companies out there willing to hire you.

Loyalty, innovation, dedication, creativity all such traits have no place there. Its a managers ball game and you are the ball.

"State of Cisco as of Sept 2021"

  1. No 2021 LR planned. Wrong - ask some in USPS and SE/SIAs
  2. Agree cisco is an average place to work now. It is not the number one place to work except in the minds of those newly hired, with less than 5 years of tenure, or in senior leadership roles. Up until about 15 years ago I would agree that it was the best
  3. Below average stock increase. Probable that when they are unable to continue to LR into profitability
  4. Don't bet on not getting hung out on what you put in a survey
  5. Innovation at cisco ended 20 years ago
  6. Work life balance is what you make of it and do on your own. There are some managers at cisco that are from way back, like 18+ years, that are militant in you maintaining a work/life balance. Find those that are still around and try to get a position with them. You will be much happier than working for some h1b or others managing up. They will usually take care of everyone based on your performance, not because of some "social injustice" program or "equity parity" garbage. The company continues to play woke taking care of a lot of incompetent individuals because of that alone. You want a raise or promo? Identify as anything other than a straight, white, middle aged male. No kidding.

No need for LRs as people are quitting left 'n right on their own. The job market is so hot now, even the bottom 1% at Cisco can land a job within a week.

There's a big difference between no publicly announced layoffs and no layoffs. Look up the quarterly restructuring costs and you'll be able to determine how many jobs got cut.
