Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T selling Digital Life?

got a replace battery warning for my DL controller on 8/4, called CS in Jamaica for a replacement on 8/5, received an email confirmation of the order. waited for two weeks, still no battery, then called again, was told it is on back order to 9/4. called today, now back order to 10/4. at end of the call, rep tried to sell me a no cost system upgrade. I told her no. Just got another email, the exclusive offer is transition to Brink's Home.

The system is still operating, monitored, on broadband only. The Brinks deal with three year lock in is terrible. Hoping they will continue past 8/31/2022, as they did 2/2022, or that someone figures out to transition is to another vendor or a DIY local operation.

Your service agreement terms have been updated.

AT&T 3G service is retiring February 22, 2022. This change will require an update to the current communication paths Digital Life services utilize. Digital Life services will be changed from a multi-path communication system with 3G as primary to a broadband only communication path starting February 22,2022.

Summary of the changes:

There is no impact to your day-to-day interaction with your Digital Life service.
After February 22, 2022, during a power loss or a broadband outage, this change will prevent Digital Life from receiving alarm signals and dispatching police/medical/fire. Also, your Digital Life app will not connect during these outages. However, your local alarm in your home will not be impacted.

You can review the updated Terms of Service here. These updates will take effect on 02/22/22. By continuing to utilize your AT&T Digital Life service, you are agreeing to the new terms.

Sincerely,

AT&T Digital Life

OP here, there is more to the DL battery saga. After original battery order was delayed couple months, then tech scheduler sent a tech and replaced DL controller, so an old model battery would not be needed. Fast forward two months to December, UPS delivered a package this week with an old battery.

Brinks is not buying DL..they have an agreement with AT&T to solicit customer using the existing Digital Life customer list. DL will be shutdown on 2/22 along with the rest of the 3G based network services. It made little sense to continue offering digital
Life in a very competitive business that’s isn’t part of your core business

OP here. The big shots are making sensible business decisions. DL tech scheduler contacted me to setup an appointment. Since there are no batteries for the old controller box, they are sending a tech to change it to a new box, but the new one will still be on 3G.

How much is T paying Brinks to take DL? There is no way Brinks would pay for this acquisition. How much will Stankey make off this transaction?

Just had a digital life service tech out- a contractor he told me flat out BRINKS is buying Digital Life ..

That's sad. DL is the one ATT service that I liked. It always does what it says it will, has a consist bill, and never gives me any trouble. The could have made that controller box an LTE home internet connection, and I'd have been happy.

Shame to see Stankey ki----g off another product because it was a smarter man's idea.

Brinks doesn’t need to be paid…AT&T will simply furnish their customer database and Brinks will make them direct offers to move over…

I'm sure Brinks will take it off of T's hands. T would need to pay billions for Brinks to take it.

Lol even my locally run alarm company has already come out and upgraded the cellular communicator to a 5G one. You’re never gonna get that battery, might as well just take it to batteries plus and buy you’re own.

This high touch model was never sustainable, the average home owner isn't technical proficient for self-install.

The story I heard was that certain hardware even required a licensed electrician to install. Obscenely expensive

my DL was chnaged from 3g to 4g in 2019, no charge to me. No email or flyer yet about migrating to anyone else.

Digital Life required a lot of boots on the ground. The installers that came to my home were contractors from out of state, that should tell you something. This high touch model was never sustainable, the average home owner isn't technical proficient for self-install.

DL was championed by Donovan. Yes, he of Domain 2.0 and AIC fame.

DL was introduced before Stankey took control.

Stankey will end up paying Brinks several billion to take it off his hands. Another tremendous flop for AT&T Leadership.

They've been trying to sell off DL since 2017. Neither Randy nor Stank can find a buyer, in other words, a greater fool.

So, they're letting it wither on the vine, and managing for cash.

Sending you a new battery costs $ so they will obviously not do that!

The Stink would pay another company to take any T asset and get another $9m broker fee for his good work.

Digital Life has 3G wireless as primary and in home wifi as backup communication. When 3g shut down by next year, the hardware will be obsolete, and the business will be sold below value. Company will claim strategic move successful and reduce debt, never mind the sunk cost and pi----g off customers.

The security sensors are fairly standard now, and you can use them with another provider.

Hey - it makes sense. I have the system at my house. Overall, I find it pretty cr---y but it was very inexpensive to install...As a retiree, there's no discount...Hopefully they'll upgrade the way it works (programming is abysmal and no support for programs that don't work) or maybe this will just drive me to roll out an do-it-yourself system.

Are you saying you got an email from AT&T Digital Life with an offer to upgrade your system by transitioning to Brinks?
