Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I wish these were my problems

I just read that according to Gallup, the main three reasons why people are leaving their jobs are:
Not seeing opportunities for development
Not feeling connected to the company’s purpose
Not having strong relationships at work
Other than the first one, I can't imagine any of that being the driving force in my decision to leave. My top three?
Not paid nearly enough for the amount of work I do
Melting benefits
Bullying manager

You don’t have many problems. You got only one problem:
You are working in a dying industry and worse is that within a backward industry, you are dealing with a uniquely toxic, close minded, selfish culture place like EM.

Resolve this and all problems will be reset.

@qyk Can’t wait to see how millennials turn out in old age. I’m sure they’ll all be enlightened philosopher kings of the Platonic archetype.

If I have to choose between living next door to a boomer or a millennial, I’m choosing the boomer every time.

I am thinking about leaving. My reasons:

  1. Manipulative people whose interest is to further their careers rather make ethical decisions.
  2. Bullying Managers.
  3. Incompetent managers/ lack of leadership/ lack of appreciation.
  4. Back stabbing culture.
  5. Being lied to on everything from career development, promotion, to having a support staff.
  6. Chaotic organization. I had 8 bosses in 7 years, of which maybe 1 that was any good. There have been at least 4 re-organization.

Only positive was that I was paid well. But mental and physical abuse is not worth it.

1) dying industry limiting long term career growth

2) dying climate making gulf unlivable

3) dying people making decisions for a future they don't have to deal with

Whatever the case, merely a blip of boomerdom to be overcome or an long-standing problem of greed and corruption in this corporate socialist dinosaur:
There is simply no reason I need to work here. Or want to.

  1. Stagnation in growth and development. My attempts at getting onto a team and into a role where I can learn, grow, and use my technical knowledge/abilities have failed time and time again. Each time my Supervisor and Manager essentially tell me they know better (in other words) and that the move will be good for my career. I guess they're right... since there doesn't seem to be a future at XOM for competent, passionate, technical folks.
  2. Toxic culture. Nuff said.
  3. Houston is literally the armpit of Texas. The entire city is one big concrete jungle and strip mall inundated with donut shops, nail salons, pawn shops, strip mall ERs/Instacares, Chinese restaurants, etc. The weather sucks ba--s most of the year, the topology is non-existent (except on the freeway overpasses), and the news is riddled with mu---rs or other forms of violence across the city. Overall, the city is overrated.
