It is a disaster what those at the top are doing. Not only to employees but to this company in general. Knowing that after every layoff I survived the situation here has only gotten worse, never better, this time for that very reason I hope to be on the layoff list. Surviving here is not a privilege nor honor. I’d say it’s just prolonging the agony while you’re even more overwhelmed with work, you feel even more miserable and you’re wasting your time, right?

To the crony who is paid to harass employees on this site and requested 40 words or less
Fu-k you!
I work my a-s off for this company and have been given more and more responsibility with less and less people. Oh and I’ve gotten financially poorer working with no benefits and a new BYOD requirement. I agree with the person who asked for a layoff and severance. I’m with him. Do me the favor of releasing me from this awful place and give me some money for pain and suffering. That’ll give me the time I need to find a GREAT company to work for and leave this shithole behind.
Stop agonizing and start doing. You've survived every layoff but you're still complaining. Tell us in 40 words or fewer what you are doing to rectify this situation. Stop wishing to be on a layoff list. That is lazy. You're super lazy. Get your sh-t together, whiny baby.
Some departments get around this by trumping up a massive need for new hires roughly 6 months after the layoff. These new hires might have 1-2 people picked to join them in their good ol' boy club (if attrition leaves an opening), and the rest are kept around so they can be the layoff bait - they're not given anything much to do, aren't allowed to touch anything vital or critical, and are just basically given only busy-work to justify their paycheck.
Protip: If you're a new hire, and the team you're in doesn't give you anything vital/critical to do by your sixth month in, nor do they take you under someone's wing? You're probably the designated sacrifice for the next layoff.
They don't ask for volunteers in the US but I know plenty of people who have talked directly with their manager about it.
I was literally getting invited to meetings by VPs on Monday to discuss projects I was working on, and was laid off on Tuesday. There's no warning or hint at all. Nobody volunteers for this.
: @1mvc+1cRTKxUm Are you new here??? They don’t ask for volunteers in the US Fiserv sites. They prefer the element of surprise. Soulless C suite monsters!
If you want to be on the layoff list why don’t you have the courage and integrity to go volunteer. If you don’t want to be there I am sure they would take you up on your offer.
I'm just here to collect pay checks and already have back up plans in case if I get laid off.
