Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

For those who want to go back to Cisco

If Cisco leadership is real about getting into software, security and cloud, then I imagine those of us who left the company should be able to go back to Cisco in senior leadership positions. I may consider going back due to the work-life balance that I enjoyed at Cisco. At least that was possible with the manager that I worked with. Obviously if my manager decides to leave, that is another story.

I am employed in one of the top cloud/software companies. Let’s see if those folks working at G12 and G13 at Cisco without any cloud, cloud security and DevOps experience will continue to run the show. If Cisco leadership makes the mistake to keep those folks and they don’t bring back folks with renewed skills, it will be tough to meet their target growth.

Even if you elevate your skill sets inside Cisco, you will likely end up at VMware, Palo Alto, top 3 cloud or SFDC. Those are the companies what will actually recruit you for said skills, use said skills, and pay you handsomely for said skills.

Cisco's strategy has always been to obtain talent through acquisitions. Not through recruiting/hiring full-time Cisco employees.

I still know some people who have elevated themselves at Cisco, but I can't imagine what circumstances would ever make me pursue a position with them. So glad to be out of the day to day toxicity and archaic product set.
