I have been to the last few town halls. Some interesting information was let out. First they expect more work from older more experience workers. There are different standards for new employees vs older ones. PIP ing has not resulted in anyone being forced to leave. The PIPed left on there own accord so don't worry. Exxon expects more out of everyone that is left and if you can't perform above and beyond then you will drop. Remember though you still have to do quality work and safely. The ranking system has improved because it allows both the movement from top to bottom and vise versa. The old ranking system allowed workers to coast on their past contributions and drop slowly. The days of older workers just coming in and collecting a check till retirement are gone. The concept of 1 year contract employees was dismissed as unjustified worry. So basically Exxon wants the older to contribute and do most of the work while the youngers learn . If an older employee gets sick and can't contribute then they drop and get piped. BTC and other overseas RE were brought up but these were not feasible because of the logistics according to the speaker. Computer support EMIt was also talked about and they said it is under staffed and the turnover rate was awful. The main take away was we are lean short staffed and for the foreseeable future we will stay this way. If you can deal with this, adapt and perform you can stay maybe; if not goodbye and good riddance. One question about ranking and the fact that if a supervisor does not like you what hope is there for you, They gave us some bull about the ranking process and the fairness of it. The question about the continued PIPing was deflected but confirmed without a rate 8%.

reading this makes me so mad because it's all true. I don't know why people say it's lies. It's all the typical gaslighting from managers, even the ones I used to respect.

  • our people are our most important asset and they can be layoff whenever.
  • We want to help you improve and therefore we PIP you to dump down your confidence and morale, and most importantly affect your increment for many years to come. (why don't they PIP HiPos if the aim is for improvement?? HiPos need to improve more and faster since they are the future leaders)
  • we hold ourselves to high standards and therefore we MSP our IT, pricing and other support functions where the lowest cost people do barely passable work.
  • your ranking can drop 90 RGP in any one year when you have a bad job fit or a lousy boss, and you will have zero increment and a hard time climbing back up the RGP curve, and of course that's because we care so much about your long-term fulfilling career here.

urgh this is like the wife beater saying i hit you because i love you. How can our managers sprout these stuff in town halls? But omg they do

The part that is true is that older workers will more likely get fired before they can retire. The company can save tons by not giving you the pension, or the higher salary. In other words, you can now ignore the pension, as most of you will never last 30 years with the company!! Great plan.
