Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

There is no winning here

Cenovus has put us in a no-win situation, other than to leave. We know there'll be more layoffs. We spend most of our time worrying about them but when they're over and we're still here, it doesn't end. It continues because we know it's just a temporary reprieve. I'm getting so tired of that. Leaving seems to be the only option that'll preserve my mental health.

That’s why anyone who buys into this stupid cultures and values gig is an absolute donkey. We all know more layoffs are coming and they continue to try and sell parts of the company which means less of us. You would have to be a complete simpleton to buy into it all.

Continuing on like this isn't healthy at all. For others waiting for a severance, consider explaining why you possibly stayed at a company that has been sending so many workers to the streets for nothing over the past five years. Consider why youre still working here since or before 2015, why?

Consider it from a potential employers or recruiters position, they know what Cenovus is, it's no secret in the HR world network across the country. It could look like you lack character or talent. It may look like youre a floater, a brown noser, a fa-t smeller, cant manage your home finances, have a mental problem, have an attitude, too political, too arrogant, high maintenance, a bully, don't care, have personal family issues or illnesses. The list is long for many different reasons however not all will suffice and realistically alot of potential future employers won't actually take the time to give you a second look.

If you saved some money over the years, you owe it to yourself and your family and your peers to put your resignation notice in and leave, even if you don't currently have something lined up. People over time will understand and respect you for trying to do the right thing when things were very difficult. Future employers will respect you for walking away. I don't see what the victory is here in staying until finally they have laid you off so you can get a severance. It stinks and will look like money worshiping. The first step is always the hardest but your future self will see this crossroads as the very best thing that has happened to you. You will realize that you're actually alive and not alone at all.

The only reason the leadership is celebrating is because commodity prices are high. Nothing else at all. We’re not resilient, we have a one trick pony, really bad safety records, so much bullying and harassment, the minute you speak up you’re bullied
