Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bedminster

Random restacking notifications went out today to clear out if you are on a specific floor. First step to the building closing? No more NOC, etc.

considerably less done in an office than in my own domain. Less disturbances, ability to respond at anytime. Computer sitting hter in the office at midnight. its too tempting to work 111 hour days when not tied to a corporate desk [8 hours plus commute] and all that distraction

Just replied to an email & said my office isn't needed. Haven't been there in years & no plans to ever return.

Ha. Anybody thinking a NOC or any other center is safe needs to wake up. They are all designed to fold down with a simple call forward to anywhere including some off shore "non employee" staffed location. Leased sites are being purged from the books by CRE and they have no problem vacating any floor leased or owned you may be squatting in pinging on the network.

"...clear out if you are on a specific floor" - Clear out to where? Could this only mean there are plans for that floor, such as creating another lab or reserving the space for a pool of contractors? They did this with a wing in the main Middletown building a while back. I wouldn't put much stock into it without knowing what the details. I seriously doubt anything will change for the NOC.

Middletown, on the other hand is loaded with empty rooms and quiet hallways, and has been that way well before the Covid shutdown. If anything happens to either of the buildings, I'd have to guess some of the Middletown buildings will be closed down. However, there are labs in most of the buildings, and it is expensive to move labs.

@icy+1cXBMG3z Your comment oozes with jealousy. Poor fella.

Hahahaha. I'm retired. Fairly wealthy after my pension and 401K. Retired at 59-2 years ago.
I'm a lot of things, but poor and jealous are not on that list.
Enjoy your office job fella.
Until they close it.

Bedminster Township is planning for life without AT&T: http://p1cdn4static.civiclive.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_10139962/File/Bedminster%20LUB%20Presentation%2009-09-21%20(Final).pdf

If the town is scared, everyone else should be too.

I thought Bedminster was also leased? We heard from security guards the lease would be coming up in 2022-2023 a few years ago....

Anyone in Middletown reading this? Any rumors about what's happening with that building?

Bedminster has had a target on their back for years. It should come as no surprise Stankey has decided to shut it down. Stankey is getting desperate to find assets that he can convert into cash. What's next?

How do we know it’s not to make room for people in another NJ office, like Middletown? I can’t see them closing the NOC.

I heard a rumor bedminster was closing but nothing official. It would be nice to know (now) because I’d consider retiring if I thought I’d have to drive to Middletown from now on. Hopefully they will allow us to go full time remote if bedminster closes. It’s 40 min drive to bedminster and then another hour on top of that to Middletown

I had 2 garages close on me in 41 years. So I just drove to where ever. I was free to quit, as you are. You office people are quite helpless. No wonder the company is closing your offices.
Pathetic to be honest.

Maybe T has learned that less office space is needed since it doesn't seem like anyone plans to return to an office anytime soon.

That's true but no one took Donovan seriously. He was a lot of huff and puff, glad he's gone!

Donovan nearly shuttered it a few years ago. Less essential now than then

It’s hard to know when it comes to office closure. I went through one office closure and they refurbished the entire inside of the building, gave everyone new PC’s and office furniture less than 6 months before they announced they were closing the building. As have many of us, I have seen them hire during slow periods and layoff when everyone is working mandatory overtime.
