Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Applying to many, many jobs

I sent out more job applications than I care to count. I applied for every job I could find. Unfortunately, what happens is that a lot of people apply for the same job. I'm getting worried I'll have to stay here for a long time because of that.
Do you think that the situation will change for the better or that it will get worse in this regard, that is, the job market will become even more competitive?

Go outside the company, and keep this job. You see, everything is bu-----t, you just have to polish yours up. Keep both jobs running, who would know? Don’t be steered, do the steering.

If you are qualified go get a job outside of Verizon and skip the stupid internal application charade, which as the person below points out - Is almost entirely kiss a** based. People move around / up at Verizon with no regard to their skill or experience so who cares if you are even qualified internally. Go external and make more $.

If you applied for many many internal apps then the recruiters will assume you are desperate and are just looking for anything you can land. Hiring managers don’t want that either.. they want some one who’s qualified and has been preparing themselves for a specific job. Have you networked with any of the hiring managers for the jobs you applied for? If they don’t know your name before you applied the likelihood of you getting selected is VERY slim.

Applying for a job Internally is a nightmare. Apply for 20 positions, may get 3 responses, 1 interview and then find out you were their #2 pick for only one opening. Ugh. Its a numbers game. Once you get your 100th application submitted, you might actually get 1 of those positions. Keep trying. Good luck

It is a weird market. People can't find a job or get a response to their applications and companies who have positions to fill and can't find people somehow can't find any applicants. Someone has to change their standards.

Let's understand this:

It takes 4-6 weeks to get hired by the time you get contacted by a recruiter
My last three jobs was because I knew somebody who was an advocate for me
And it can take 2-12 months to get your next opportunity
Applying blindly to every job is a mind numbing exercise in futility

Interviewing process is extremely subjective. Dont be hard in yourself and above all be selective!
