Layoffs versus attrition

During our weekly “Matt Wilcox” call Matt discussed the recent layoffs. Heartbreaking to hear that our company laid off any staff considering how overwhelmed everyone else. Then the call took a comical direction when he started to address the raising attrition. Matt commented that 60% of the staff is running to a new job and 40% running from something. I personally feel it’s the other way around. My team has seen people take a pay cut with another company and others opted for a bilateral move to escape the insane work load and poor management. In the end our Clients suffer.

The IBM water cooler memo of 1992 - famous. Nothing to do with Fiserv save comment above sharing verbatum conversation. John Akers was furious about bad results in 1992 and really laid into his staffers, saying nobody listens and the sales reps do nothing but stand around water coolers all day long. Well one bright bunny took that down and decided to send it out over PROFS, the email sys. Within days it skyrocketed all over the firm, cost Akers a ton of support, angered the sales reps (who were hitting Vodka, not water). It will be then interesting to see the results of this honesty at Fiserv, eh, First Data.

Not sure you should be sharing verbatim conversations with your manager, you probably wouldn’t like that if one of your associates did that to you. Matt is a good guy, viewed that way universally.

It seemed like Matt was one of the leaders that at least seemed to be direct. The fact that he even brought up the layoff. I don’t understand how the company plans to operate - really must not care about customer impact
