Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Unprofessional workplace

Is it just me or is this really one of the most unprofessional workplaces you’ve worked at?

I had high expectations before I came here and therefore my disappointment is even greater as it turns out that the small bank I previously worked at was a much more professional workplace.

It’s u professional because we now have a work force who doesn’t want to work. They’re more worried about breaks, lunches and time off than learning the job they were hired for. It also doesn’t help that senior management shows know interest in their employees or learning what anyone does they oversee. How can you make decisions to cut positions without having an understanding of what is needed to do a job to begin with

I remember that being my first impression when I was hired almost 20 years ago. The operations people were treated like school kids being sent home for things such as wearing the wrong clothes. And my boss chewed me out for taking a plane to NYC instead of the train because by the time I booked a car from the airport it was an extra $40 even though it saved me 8 hours of travel time. And I was a professional making 6 figures but wasn't allowed to decide something as simple as that. Of course, if the company was run right, I shouldn't have been booking my own travel anyway. It took me at leas 2x as long as it would have taken someone who did it every day for 1/4 the salary.

Many years ago, I worked on the 14th floor at 101 B. There was this manager that sat in a cubical in the corner of the floor and she would scream at her direct reports several times a day.

It was the nastiest, petty nonsense that I ever heard. I felt sorry for the people that reported to her. Sometimes they would try to defend themselves, but most of the time they just took it.

The thing is that she was so loud that everyone could hear her, and she was allowed to do this for years.

I've never experienced anything like that in my professional career.

It is far more professional now that the majority are WFH.

Sorry for clogging the men’s room toilet on 14. I promise I won’t do it again after we return to office. I’ll cut back on the curry and lentils.
