Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Technology, Info Security and the fake Diversity stunt

Technology teams especially in Info Security are about to be hatcheted. Managers keep leaving. Saul has no experience ability or positive impact. Application Security teams filled with incompetence and cost Wells many millions. The real problem is people like Dallas L have zero experience running tech teams, and they are at their current position only because they knew someone. Shameful. But again they are focused on what ? Technology growth? No. Innovations ? No. Diversity is their only focus, and that shows their incompetence…Saul clearly said ..their no. One focus is elevating women of color to Management positions, While they should work at being fair …fair to all. So now we are stuck with incompetent inexperienced arts majors who indeed are diverse but will be of zero use….All fake…

Both ignorami and ignoramuses are correct. Another fun one is octopuses, which is the correct plural of octopus, not octopi.

"The diversity stunt will eventually come back and haunt many corporations. All you need to do is read the Bell Curve by Charles Murray. Just like politics, everything will swing back to the middle."

Just like we swung back to slavery and treating women as property, right? Because those are also the historic mean.

I was going to correct to ignorami, but it turns out it can also be ignoramuses.

Who said this place cannot be educational?

Good point OP. Diversity is not really a strength, but a tool which in the long run weakens our society as a whole. It promotes a certain sector of people over quality. Sometimes the diversity hire is a good one, but when it is based solely upon color or s-x or whatever, it is bound to fail. To hide that failure, metrics/measurements become easier so the incompetent can still compete and keep the job. It is a cancer to rid an earlier (true discrimination ) cancer. Let's go back to hiring based upon quality. We can still fight things such as nepotism while adhering to a quality only hire system.

People dont like DEI initiatives because like affirmative action, it overrides reality to promote an ideal.

Unfortunately ideals that are not underpinned by enough reality require props to hold them up and instead if being well intentioned like Dr King's "I have a dream" initiative, they are coopted as part of socialist desires to topple capitalism from within.

It iant about racism for most. Its an inate rebellion against undermining meritocracy, which is also the foundation of the republic.

Tech and engineering teams at all silicon valley companies, the ones everyone wants to work at and get piles and piles of stock options from, all look like the United Nations.

Diversity is natural there becuase all they care about is hiring the smartest people so the company can make the most money.

There are people here the don't like D&I because they don't feel good about themselves, and trashing entire groups of people makes them feel special.

Its not about race or gender.

There are succesful companies run by every variation of both.

It is about a culture that died out due to apathy ten years ago and allowed cancer to grow. Its time for tactical surgery by a skilled physician not the vet who failed out of med school that we have now

Every so often we get a new person that nobody knew was coming. No interviews, no relevant job skills, no need, no actual open position, no input from us, no nothing.

They just "show up".

We've started refering to them as "Diversity Hires".

These are not for entry level jobs, either. Our most recent one was for a highly technical database admin position.

It's a shame. Why put somebody into a position when there's zero chance they can be successful?

It is actually very difficult for an IT major to get these leadership positions. The assessment that bankers with non associated degrees being appointed is correct. 7 out of 10 seem to meet this criteria with the other 3 being India based leaders who are decent at leading their focus areas, but missing the bank context.

Its untenable. A renewed vision is needed
