Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoffs

Other than unsubstantiated rumors, has there been any concrete information about possible layoffs? It feels like most of the info we are getting is from people who are worried and projecting rather than info from people who actually know what might be coming. I'm not saying people shouldn't be worried, I'd just like to avoid worrying myself unless I have a really good reason for it.

I think it is going to happen, but the reason why it wouldn't happen is the new CFO tries to do things differently. That said, I think it is happening.

Every year these rumors become true, think about that.

There's a surprising amount of people claiming to have "hallway chat" kind of news considering how many are working from home. Layoff rumors on this board are common and often wrong. I'd guess that this site has warned of coming layoffs at a rate of 2-3 times more than have actually happened.

That said, it's Cisco and a LR is as certain as death and taxes. Reality is that there's little you can do to avoid it. You should know what you need to do to prepare yourself in case you're selected. Yeah, do a good job, look to keep your skills up to date and add value, but a lot of people have been tapped for an LR that are solid employees. Bad luck is all it is.

If there's a saving grace it'd be that after the significant action Cisco took last fall, and the heat they took after, they're less likely to take a major action this end of fiscal year. But that's by no means a guarantee. There's a saying - when the only tool you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail. Cisco leadership's tool box just has reorg/LR.

I've heard nothing concrete but I think we all know they are coming; there have been significant layoffs announced every year following the August earnings call for the last 6 or 7 years.
