Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Is Nike really that stingy??

Been working as a ETW in technology for a year. Won't say what department for obvious reasons. I recently applied for a internal job with Nike and got denied 24 hours later. Can't make this stuff up. I have experience working indirectly with this team, used my references. I don't know anyone on this team persay. They know " of my team" figured it would be a easy shoe in.. Wrong..

On top of that, I had meeting with my agency " handler" and posed the question about promotions, etc. Of course they pitched the whole " getting converted" spiel. LOL. Total joke.. I hinted that I would like a increase in salary eventually. My handler basically told I could " lose my job over $10 increase". Her words not mine... My department is on a " tight budget".

So what gives??? Nike is a billion dollar company, they won't hire or create internal positions. Then the double whammy is you can't ask for a raise or you're at risk of losing your job? On top of that ETW's can't even buy shoes Swoosh. lmao.

What the he-l is wrong with Nike? I have to say they're dysfunctional and a bunch of tight wads. They've created a system of serfdom and any way to cut labor and advancement. At least that's been my experience. It's time for me to go... Been applying like crazy.

Seconding what @ysa+1caturNT said.

The 'stingyness' is far more likely with your placement firm. Nike is likely already paying them top dollar and they know it but don't want to lower their take of your daily toils all for the privilege of 'placing you.' And I'm guessing you have little to no benefits from them as well.

Try to ask them what their cut is and almost assuredly they will claim it's a "trade secret" or some other such hogwash. It's all a Fing scam that has gone on far too long.

I know of no other industry which has a 'broker' in between the party paying and the party doing the work and the broker's cut is not fully transparent.
Buying a house, you know the broker's cut.
Professional athlete, you know your manager's cut.
etc. etc.

Long overdue for tech placement firms to be fully transparent.

I honestly feel like they see ETW on your resume and know that you aren't part of the club. It was bad when I was working there and it only seems to have gotten worse. At least there were still some perks that ETWs could partake in to make the humiliation not sting as much. It was pretty nice to see those FTE's crying about losing perks several years back.

There are qualifying questions on an application that if you don't pass a specific bar that was set (sometimes without the manager knowing), you get rejected automatically without anyone seeing. Not necessarily what happened, but possible!

The vendor/agency you are employed by takes a sizable cut of the $ Nike pays for your contract. I’ve seen it go as high as 50%. You should be able to negotiate a raise through your employer without Nike needing to pay more.

I hope they get sued soon. They've been using people for too long

There's a hiring freeze and about to be a re-org in Tech. Nobody can do anything until the re-org occurs.

I've also heard promises that we're going to start converting ETWs in the fall so maybe there's an opportunity coming. (I'm surprised we haven't been sued like Microsoft) Then again, I dont trust anything we're being told right now.
