Maximizing sabbatical before quitting

I just hit my 10 year mark and I’m now entitled for a 5 week sabbatical. I’ve heard of teammates splitting up the sabbatical into 2 - taking 2.5 weeks of company paid first at one go and taking the remaining the other 2.5 weeks a couple months down the road. I’m planning on quitting but I want to maximize my sabbatical entitlement and also getting my PTOs paid out. Anyone have experience in this? Can I take 2.5 weeks first come back and quit and get my PTOs paid out in full?

I was trying to do the same thing last year (spliting the 5 weeks) and they told me that it cannot be done. Good luck with your future plans.

I am currently on sabbatical and wanted to split the weeks but was told by HR that it had to be taken consecutively, not split.

If you don’t use it up before you quit they won’t pay it out - it’s not treated like PTO. I have friends that were laid off and their unused sabbaticals did not pay out.

You are supposed to take all at once. But if you have additional PTO you want to use up you could ask for 6, 7+ weeks off. Then when you return put your two week notice in. They might let you go that day. Regardless, they will pay out all unused PTO. If others were splitting it up it was most likely on the "side" with their manager.
