Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Makes no sense

Everywhere I look (I'm not talking just about T, but overall) I see studies that say productivity increased during WFH. In some cases, significantly. I'm yet to find a company that said its productivity went down. Still, more and more companies are announcing RTO for their employees. Why? How do those two things go together?

It’s the 20/80 rules. 20 percent do 80 percent of the work. With WFH, the 20 percent are responsible for all of the so-called productivity gains. The bottom 20 percent spend their days complaining on this board.

I'm a T manager, i fully support WFH, my staff is remote and if they "goof off", it shows in their results. I dont need to see their faces.

Maybe you should start your own company and show them how much better you are with WFM employees.

Who gets their information about their company or career from a radio ‘personality’? Really ridiculous!

"it's all about control." That is pretty spot it.

The funny things is, if you really intend to goof off, being in the office isn't a showstopper. There are plenty of posts from people don't have enough work to keep them busy. Getting them to the office isn't going change that one bit. Management is simply too lazy and incompetent. Supervisors live/die by headcount, there are zero incentives to release resources to another team, even when it makes absolute business sense.

Stankey and his executive geniuses are keeping productivity down by design. RTO isn't going to change anything.

Most in upper management don't know how to manage a widely dispersed staff . They go back to the old tradition if you're in the office someone will be watching you and you will work rather than look at your accomplishments and goal attainment

It has something to do with the unpalatable idea that the company is paying you to do your laundry and mow your lawn.

If you haven't figured it out yet, it's all about control. Leadership at T are anti-telecommute, they have no trust that employees will do the right thing when WFH. Some employees can be trusted some cannot, it's as simple as that.
