Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Hybrid Work Townhall

So what got Chuck so upset in the townhall? I didn’t see the exchanges but gathered some of the serfs were not kosher having mama Fran dictate what goes in their body. He sounded pi---d. Something tells me HR will be following up.

It really is simple. It's a condition of employment. Every state in the country has established mandatory vaccines for school children, many have the same for high schools and colleges. Background checks. Seat belt laws. Speed limits. ID to buy alcohol or smokes. ID to buy a house, ID to vote. It's hilarious how anti-vaxxers say "we don't know what's in the vaccine!" "Personal liberty" - and then go on to stuff their faces with foods and other things they have no idea about "what's in it", or click on Facebook ads or turn on location services on their phone. If an employee doesn't like the conditions of employment, they should leave. Period. The fact they don't is because they are scared. Scared of letting go of the golden egg they've been exlpoiting all their career.

I am dead if Cisco lays me off. So my layoff matters.
any disagreements from people ???

Wah. Need some cheese with your whine? Why is your layoff more important than my layoff?

No one likes layoffs. Especially people late in their career where it's much harder to get another job in your 50's and even 60's. I'm now at the age where my age is against me when interviewing. There's lots of interest in my resume, and even in the phone interview, but when they do the face-to-face interview, some are not good at hiding the fact that age is an issue. It's very predominant where the team is all in their mid-20's - 30's and no one is over 40.

But people don't "die" from layoffs. Especially when Cisco provides 4-6 months of pay as severance and provides COBRA payments for the same period of time. I've been laid off from Raytheon Systems Co where they gave 2 weeks severance, plus an extra week for every year of service when they closed the site in TX and moved it to Tucson, AZ.

If you can't handle getting laid off from Cisco, I strongly suggest that you look for another job somewhere else and quit Cisco, because sooner or later you will get laid off from Cisco.

I was there and what was said was,
All lives matter. Not just black lives.
Unaware of anyone being fired. Nowadays, it’s so toxic, would not be surprised.

There were more comments than just "All lives matter. Not just black lives." There was a special all-hands about a week later to address the comments and the terminations. They mentioned that comments were considered "green" if they were ok, "yellow" if they were border line objectionable or attacking of someone, "orange" if they were worthy of a reprimand or "red" if they crossed a unacceptable line.

IIRC, everyone who made really objectionable comments that were considered "orange" were spoken to by managers and HR. Some did not apologize for their comments and said they'd make the same comments again, so they were terminated. The person/people who made the "red" comments were talked to, informed that their comments were unacceptable, and were terminated.

It’s good time to be woke, vaccinated and employed at Cisco. Best place to work.

Right, it was the "all lives matter"comment that kicked off a lot of comments. I do recall a follow up ELT email stating there was no room for comments like that and what followed and that the appropriate party had their employment terminated.

I missed the live broadcast too. I can't seem to find the replay for it which means I can't find the chat and Q&A logs. I'm guessing from these comments about the chat section is why there's no replay available.

If you think bashing your coworkers in an online forum in front of thousands of employees is a good idea you are mistaken and it will not likely work out well for you in the end.

Yeah, that didn't end well for some people at the start of the pandemic and all the talk around the peaceful protests, or riots as some called them, in the chats lead to some terminations. I wonder if we'll hear about any terminations for those chats.

People, people, people, get a grip! Chuck and the ELT are doing what they think is best for the company and its employees. As Chuck said "decisions have to be made". Yes, everyone has an opinion and are entitled to have one, but making derogatory comments in the chat room for ALL to see is unprofessional and more importantly, career limiting. Remember, during the BLM movement last year when Chuck and the ELT announced during an All Hands that the company would be donating money and extending other efforts to help resolve the issues that face the black community, several employees made racial statements on chat (i.e., "black lives don't matter") and were fired immediately.

I think it is reasonable for Cisco to say that if your job involves attending meetings or on-site work with customers (aka other human beings) on behalf of Cisco then you must have the vaccine.

I think Cisco have been very reasonable and flexible during the pandemic.

To the people that think a job or business should be allowed to dictate something like this, replace anti-vaxx with a political alignment. Is it ok to say we think libertarians are bad for those around them and should not be allowed? They spread bad ideas and probably carry a g-n. Besides, this is a private business, so it's ok for us to do this? How about if we replace anti-vaxx with black? This is the issue at hand, should businesses be allowed to discriminate? I would say no? It's not about getting the shot, it's about personal liberty. I got the shot, but I still support the people who say you can not mandate it onto me.

I missed the live broadcast but heard the comments section was a free for all.

Friends on both sides: please get a grip on your emotions.

Sorry, its not a mandate. Its a condition of employment. Heck, there have been companies that have let all their smokers go. One thing I've observed while working at Cisco - we have, by far, the highest ratio of whiners of any company I've ever worked for. I remember a company meeting after Trump was elected where employees were pushing for Cisco to be some sort of resistance to the new administration.

That might be the tech industry these days. I read how Google has its issues, and how Amazon has employees protesting if they don't like some book or product being sold. If people at Cisco would just shut up and focus on their job the company would see a huge gain in productivity.

I'm waiting for the next phase of idiocy to arise - the anti-teeth brushers and anti-soapers. You won't have to worry about them having Covid because you won't want to get near them

I’m sure this will be an unpopular comment but it goes without saying…
No one is forced to work anywhere let alone Cisco…Supposedly slavery is over. If folks don’t like what Cisco says, does or what direction they are going in then they should leave. It’s foolish to come in here and bi--h, moan and complain day in and day out but still collect a paycheck. That’s called entitlement. Obviously, you can’t leave because you haven’t done so even though you swear you hate the job. If you’re going to stay at least be respectful or pretend to like the place because there are some people who actually like their jobs. Most of us in here don’t like the quarterly layoffs and stealthy tactics but that’s totally different than consistently putting down the leaders every chance you get. You can always take the skills “you bring to the table” ban together and start your own company. It’s less stressful and more productive than trying to turn a layoff room into a “ we hate Cisco, leftists, woke, blah, blah, blah” bitchfest every day of the week because it just isn’t healthy.

It was the typical Cisco bu-----t where they dictate some cr---y policy like being vaccinated if you want to be in a Cisco building, travel, or see customers, and then when some people object to the fascism they use the “We’re okay with disagreement but you need to be respectful!” line. Supposedly, the vax and anti-vax camps were fighting in the comments channel and Chuck got worked up about it and told everyone that we’re better than that. Cisco management is chock-full of leftist stooges.
