To tell or not to tell?

My job is changing due to the restructuring of the management regime. I am pretty much being pushed around as I am valuable but I am not doing what I want I would like to volunteer to be laid off too. But I worry about telling this to my manager as he might not consider it and instead he will just torture me more. Has anyone gone to HR instead of their manager with good results?

I apologize to the author for copying their post into a new thread, but this is my question as well. Has anyone had such experience? I don’t dare mention it to my manager because I’m pretty sure I’m more likely to get myself in trouble.

Went to HR once, supposedly in confidence, my manager knew I was looking to leave the department before I made it back to my desk....moral of the story -- NEVER EVER go to HR they do not have your back

Never go to HR. They work for the Bank not the individual.

What's really funny is my managers manager swears she has skip level meeting with everyone. I've never had a single skip level with her in the years she has run the group. I understand, she's busy st-----g her boss, because there is no other way she got her job.

You know the answer. You can’t tell them, they will make your life miserable and either find a way to terminate you or force you to quit.
It’s not the kind of firm you can volunteer for a layoff.
