Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Leaving Nike...

Are you having a hard time deciding to leave Nike, even though it's not great here? How careful are you when looking for a new job? I had big illusions when I applied for a job here, but I quickly realized that this is not exactly the company I imagined it to be while doing research and looking for a job. I would not like to make such a mistake again and end up in a company where the atmosphere is similar.

I feel so bored at Nike in the past few months, not much work to do and no growth at all. Around the same time some recruiters reached out on LinkedIn, passively interview and got two offers. I was surprised on the 40% pay increase, and realized how long I've been just sit in the comfort zone and know no nothing about the outside world. Funny thing is just after I accepted the new offer, I got unexpected 20% raise at Nike, maybe they finally realize I was underpaid or they are having hard time to recruit. But it's too late and I need a change...

So my advice: passively look for new opportunities, compare, don't jump in a rush, there are way worse employers than Nike (tbh, Nike is relatively decent). Oh, and if you are not happy, you can always quit, our employment is at-will.

I definitely know people who left and realized it can be even worse.. that testimony is what’s keeping me here for now.

Avoid Columbia Sporstwear like the plague. I made that mistake. It’s a mini Nike full of Nike like fiefdoms and seems even worse because it’s smaller. If Gert were alive the employees would have never worked remit and likely been chained to their desks.

All big companies will have similar issues, but Footwear and Apparel seems to be its own breed of stupid.

every person who i know who has left nike, be it lay off, resignation, or termination, are all happier and some say it was one of the best things thats happened to them. its similar to how an abused wife is afraid to leave but once she does she wonders why it didnt happen sooner
