Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Do you still plan to retire from here?

I am and I know plenty of people who do as well, but I was surprised to hear there are a lot of younger folks who treat their job here primarily as a stepping stone for something better and have no intention of staying. I'm not sure where they can find a better job these days in O&G, but that's on them. Any of the old-timers looking to change companies?

No, the work conditions are deteriorating and at some point they will cut benefits to protect the almighty dividend. There are VERY few advancement opportunities now so you are basically stuck.

I don't think we'll be here in 20 years. I think we'll live in a world that closely resembles Max Rockatansky's.

You're living in a delusional world if you think your pension and 401k will survive.
I'm putting all my retirement money in precious metals, namely blued-steel and lead.

@xsn How much money do you think someone can save in 20 years of work?

How much money do you think you need to retire?

Do you really believe someone can save enough to retire after 20 years?

I've said it before, unless you're involved in the green stuff, you have about ten years of viable career opportunity left. Use your time wisely to fund your retirement or plan your career "Plan B". By about 2030, green pressure will dramatically alter how "oil companies" do their business, and they will likely be only about 50% 'oil companies' by that point. Add to that no new major discoveries or projects, the Permian will decline rapidly by that point, as will Australian gas and Tengiz (assuming they're not outed by green forces beforehand). As evidence, it was only a few years ago that MW p-o-p-o'd the green movement and said, 'oil will be around for the foreseeable future'. Notice he doesn't say that anymore, instead kowtowing to carbon capture, natural gas from manure, and other uneconomic ventures.

Nope. Gen X doesn't stick around longer than necessary, especially with the woke Millennials/Gen Z dictating terms and discriminating left & right against everyone over 40. Not gonna share knowledge with uncool ---holes.

Anyone who has worked 20 years should be in a good position to retire at any time.

Don’t expect to make it that long. But could up your chances by suddenly identifying as a 3rd gender POC. They can’t let you go the “n, right?

There is very little chance of promotions and going up the ladder if you are below 25 already, so yes most younger folks (psg 24 or under) might consider moving moving on to other companies if they can. For those who are 40 or over, there is not much opportunity outside as the skill set and experience does not fit except other oil companies [speaking of petrotech]. This company along with other oil and gas companies will shrink in size, so you might be lucky to retire here if you are in your 40's.

OP are you serious. I am mid 40’s have been here since I got out of collage. I would like to retire from here but I don’t think there is another 20 years of runway here. Wish there was but with the company shrinking and the company becoming WOKE it’s hard to believe that there will be places for the non diverse people here in 20 years.

It will be a miracle if the majority of late Gen-X & Early Millennial retire from here.

Old timer age bracket is 55+? Not many 55+ year old left in the company except at the very high levels, and of those left what other choice do they have but to keep going here?
