Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevroids of color

Has anyone seen the percentage of people of color in CVX? How is it in the general population and in management? Who are the most senior non-white managers? I can only think of a couple out of about 200 PSG30 and up.

Token Bl---s and minorities don’t make a strong company, but smart Bl---s and minorities do. Sadly to say, Chevron doesn’t seek out quality employees to fill these quotas. First come, first serve, and it’s too bad Chevron has too many lazy and unqualified talent. I don’t mind working with Bl---s and minorities, so long as they are contributing to the company’s success. I mostly see nothing but lazy, house slipper wearing, porch sitting sloths among the ranks. They are nothing but a handicap to our business.

I'm a WM engineer and retired recently. My last manager was a black man, also engineer, chemical I think, and he was excellent. He was managing a multifunction upstream group and he made it his business to learn petroleum engineering and geology in his personal time. I think he is still with the company in international and will be going places.

@1fyo, that demographic is stagnant for a good reason. If you pretend not to know why, just ask someone you trust to give you the honest reason why.

Yes, that is correct and everyone already knows that, @1fgt. We are all wondering why you assumed that everyone here was ignorant and you are some great purveyor of knowledge? Keep your resume up to date, pal. You're welcome.

If an all POC board or exec allows us to pull more oil out cheaper then I'm all for it.

If it does not then WTF is this discussion all about? We're not a US Gov jobs program.

I think CVX has trouble retaining POC in general. As another poster mentioned, that limits the number of POC that then reach senior levels.

The endless focus in our company on what is between your legs or how much melanin is in your skin exacerbates the challenge. Why would a POC stick around if the constant drumbeat within the company is, “things were wrong in the past, and they’re still not right, but maybe someday people you work with will look like you and other people won’t discriminate against you.”

Talk about an inspiring message of unity…

HR has all the figures you request, OP, but don't expect to see them anywhere anytime soon. Secret!

First off it doesn’t matter what color someone is.

Second off I know a few. And if you go overseas you will know a whole lot. Don’t be some racist by just quoting the people you have only seen in the North American business unit.

This isn't surprising. CVX exec management promotes and mentors white males/TWG that resemble them much faster then there minority counterparts. White males are judged by there "potential" instead of "performance" unlike minorities. Same is true for non-American workers. This is also why you rarely see execs from non American countries, with few exceptions like the few execs from Canada and UK (who are TWG to be fair, so there honorary Americans lol). This time drag on promotions leaves little time at the tail end of ones career to reach an exec role successfully without getting yanked up like we have seen with female VP/GM slots (thanks DP (sarcastic)) in recent years.

Minority workers see this trend and know they have a ceiling at CVX, so they either accept it or leave early/mid in there careers thereby making the lack of minorities in exec leadership a self fulfilling prophecy ironically. (Hint: If you see one take educational leave to get there MBA, there likely not returning).

On the bright side CVX pays more then most companies for middle management jobs, so it could be worse. Also for every white male who got the VP job, there are hundreds of white males who didn't who don't complain...you know... until a female gets the job and then they bi--h until no end. So that is entertaining.

CBU President, Corp Affairs VP, and VP of HR. The Chemicals President left to CPChem, so no it longer counts.

Why would this be a priority? First diversify the upper echelons with women of anglo-celtic background - that hasn't happened yet properly after all these years.
