We’re seeing massive attrition in downstream with no effort to retain employees. It makes you realize employees are not valued.

You have got to be kidding me. Who would continue to work for this God forsaken place just because they matched another offer? They have proven they don’t care about anything but the bottom line. Not only that, they hoodwinked folks through pips instead of layoffs or severance packages. He-l isn’t hot enough for the ruthless azz hats that dreamed up this scheme. Leavings soon before I get piped, with my dignity and character still in tact. I was once proud to work for this company and busted my tail every day. Missed all kinds of family functions. Did what it took. Now we have these lame sls that never worked a day in their lives (excluding power points and micromanaging their workers so they can look good in meetings) dancing to the drum of the department heads that if I didn’t know any better are tripping on some mind altering dr-g each night because they are about as clueless as it gets. Gone from the xom gulf and good riddens!
If you have decided to look for another job and get an offer, the company usually does not counter. The written offer is proof that you are not "fit to work at XOM"...Loyalty matters. Bye-Bye
From an HR perspective, it's never right to accept a counter-offer. That's why XOM rarely counters. XOM always looks at the market to align total compensation. Other companies have bonuses whereas here, for the majority, none.
Why would you want them to match? That implies you'd actually want to stay working for the sinking ship of Exxon.
I know of several that left and only one counter (which was not accepted by the leaver)
XOM values making money--that's it. The employees are just inputs into production... like raw materials or machinery.
If they care to keep you, they will. However that’s extremely rare, I only know of one person that was countered, and that includes multiple people with 34/36/38 potential that didn’t get counter offers. They seem to base it on actual biz need vs. ranking/potential.
They do not appear to care about the attrition.
