Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

The best ones don’t stay here longer than two years

It used to be possible to build a career here. After a while people realized that they couldn't count on growing their careers here anymore, so they started staying shorter and shorter. Now the best ones do not stay longer than two years. What's next? People will only stay for a few months and leave? A great young man I know came 3 months ago and recently gave notice. So much for Honeywell and how desirable of a place it is now for young, capable and skilled people.

Yes, H1B visa holders can leave at will employer at HON and land at another job, then reapply after the 3 year expiration date.

Under two years here. I couldn’t wait out the 401k vesting. It wasn’t worth it. New salary is so much better anyway

@1svv The transition to contract employees is well underway. The insurance issue is being resolved by job shops (agency) offering benefits. Mine currently offers insurance (as good if not better and cheaper than direct at Hon) plus paid vacation and holidays. The rate is less than it was as an independent contractor but still better than direct. Plus I'm paid for overtime unlike the direct folks sitting around me. I'm working for Aero engineering.

@3ylp+1cpAorI7- I hear you. I questioned, if I should take 6 months of toxicity (and it’s impact of my health) or matching 401K, and decided to eliminate toxicity at the expense of money. I know (with modesty) that I could earn much more outside of Honeywell, that this 401K won’t matter. Good luck!

I hung around longer than I should have. I knew after two years Honeywell was a terrible place to work, but I stuck it out to get my 401k matching funds at 3 years...then got strung along to get the rest I was due from year 3 thanks to the lump sum 401k match they switched to.

All those terrible gotcha changes to benefits should be enough to deter any young blood from working at Honeywell.

Honeywell, like other tech companies, will transition to contracts for most individual contributor design positions over the next few years. Political opposition to the single payer health insurance plan is the only thing that slowed this mega trend down.

Covid and the need to isolate and protect factories will accelerate the change.
This is a subliminal part of the velocity initiatives. They need to get product development to a pace that allows design teams to be disposable.

I have already started working freelance side jobs. It is rewarding to be wanted and valued even on small jobs that are just building my network and reputation.

My departure was slightly delayed (2 years and 6 months), which I sincerely regret.
