Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who is ready to stand up?

Let me start this off by saying if you are for or against the vaccine I respect your opinion and stance. I have listened to both sides and have decided to draw my line in the sand.

I am interested in understanding just how many we have ready to stand and fight this vaccine mandate? I am appalled by the idea that we are being required to get the shot or face discipline! Can they really terminate everyone? What is being required is unconstitutional. The White House, CDC and Pfizer are not requiring vaccines for employees, so why is AT&T? Why is this requirement coming before the FDA has approved it?

So I watch many communities stand up to the school districts around mask mandates and fighting for their kids, my question is when are we going to stand and fight for ourselves in this situation? How can I lay my head down at night trying to teach my children to stand up for what they believe in if I am going to roll over and not live by the very words I preach to them?

I just want to know how many of my peers across the country feel the same way that I do? How many are willing to stand up for what’s right?

It is a slippery slope....

Yes AT&T is a private company and they can mandate whatever they want.
Most states have an exemption process for vaccinations for religious or medical reasons.
As long as it is not an undue burden on the company they should accommodate exemptions but they can make the process quite unpleasant.

A couple of points are having me scratch my head:

  1. Why now? The vaccines are still under emergency authorization but some are expected to be FDA approved soon. Why not wait until FDA approval?
  2. Why October 11? It seems like a very short time all things considered. One needs to get the second dose vaccine by September 27 so the first dose needs to be administered early September. For anyone with a pre-existing condition a consultation with a medical professional is recommended before vaccination - my doc is scheduling routine visits 2 months out.
  3. What is the business reason behind it?
  4. Contractors and union employees are not required to get vaccinated .
  5. Why do vaccinated people care about other people's vaccination status?
  6. Why don't we consider recovered COVID-19 people? Those who have recovered from the virus are not getting sick again and are not transmitting the virus (the same can't be said of vaccinated people).
  7. Why isn't AT&T offering vaccination clinics on site? Try the carrot first before the stick!!!
  8. How secure is our medical data that we are providing? It is a third party company - no details are provided...
  9. Bl---s and Hispanics have lower rates of vaccination in Texas than whites or Asians. Aren't we trying to recruit and retain more minority employees? It seems that we might be making our workforce LESS diverse with this mandate.
  10. I personally had COVID - mild illness for 3 days. I'm considered to be "immune" to the disease - chances of me catching COVID again are 0.002%. The CDC VAERS website says that about 6000 people have died in the US after getting the COVID vaccine - note that this does NOT necessarily mean that they died from the vaccine. To me getting the vaccine is Russian roulette at this point. I do not need additional protection from an illness that caused me very minor discomfort in the first place but there is a risk of side effects including possibly death from the vaccine. Is my job at AT&T worth taking that risk??

Where is anyone getting the information that the only ones in hospital are vaccinated?? They tried saying it for a few days....Now crickets. Does anyone know why? The CDC did case study in New Hampshire/Maine and found out of the 274 new cases July and early August , 75% were vaccinated and 5 vaccinated died. Now CDC has stopped keeping stats on cases of break-through (vac people who got covid or delta) . When asked why they said it is up to the states to start keeping this information??. Go to the VAERS website and see the cases and how many who were vac as they call these breakthrough cases were in hospital or died.. VAERS cases are reported by medical health workers or individuals so are assumed to be low balled numbers as many are not reporting. I am vaccinated but the more one reads it makes one wonder. So yeah go rip off your masks and take that cruise as one gentleman said.....Crazy

what freaking right are you trying to fight about? AT&T is not a country. You do not have a right to GET what you WANT because you FEEL like it. You just sound entitled as heck! The way you sound like seems like you never OWNED a business before. No shirt, no shoes, no service, no vaccine, no service. Feel free to go somewhere who will be more ALIGNED with your "right". AT&T is not having it.

Man, I swear US should invest more on education. SMH. YES, for like 50th times already, vaccine does not mean zero covid, vaccine does not mean zero infections -- vaccine is supposed to help u not die, or not get sick enough to go to HOSPITALS and take beds from trauma patients, cancer patients, people who are having surgeries etc...

Sources? which sources do you have that is smarter than CDC? MayoClinic? NIH? oh your local governor?

AT&T will fire your @$$ whether you like it or not come by Oct 11, if you do not get the vaccine.

Wow so much hate being displayed here. For those asking what gives me the right to fight this because this is a private company and that I should just quit and walk away as pose a risk to you. Why not take a moment and put yourself in my shoes? Because you would have to admit that I have a valid point? So let me ask what gives you the right to require something of me? What gives you the right to tell me how I should live? The science shows that “You the vaccinated “ are more at risk to spread then someone who is not. You also have the choice to leave. Why do I have to make that choice? You can call me all of the names you would like. You try and push your hate through words. The facts are so clear from this side.

Explain to me why a Former SVP of Pfizer is even coming out telling people not to get this. Oh wait you can’t. Or maybe you haven’t seen this because you get your information from a single source. Or one that has been proven to put out incorrect and incomplete information.

I started this with stating that I respect your choice to get vaccinated or not. There is no reason for you to try and scare off or belittle anyone. I don’t care about your thoughts about me. The only judgement I accept is from my Lord and Savior!

My stance is firm and I will not back down from this fight. My right is to have my voice and opinion heard. You push your beliefs on my and not lose an ounce of sleep over it. Be ready for some of your own medicine.

Seriously? You’re nuts. Schools and universities required vaccinations well before COVID. You don’t want the vaccine, that’s fine. But I have a right not to have to work next to you. In the Public Sector we have to pass dr-g tests. Don’t want to submit to that, fine, go somewhere else. Unconstitutional? What Constitution are you referring to? Go find a job somewhere else.

It’s a nationwide battle, not just T. Best bet is the file an accommodation to keep your integrity. If you were on the fence about vaccination, might as well get it and comply. No shame. If your vehemently against it (which is your right) file for an exemption. I don’t think it will be as hard as it sounds to do that

There is honestly not a lot of latitude to fight this due to the “urgent threat to health and safety” (CDC words, not mine).

And yet you come here talking BS….

This is where I draw the line. Been through a lot of ups and downs with this company. Surplussed and moved around the country, rehired and promoted...etc.

I have always been a top performer in my groups and an effective leader. Have been proud to be an AT&T employee and I really enjoyed what I do every day.

I will not be getting the experimental jab. I will not be putting in for an exemption, either. They will have to fire me.

So much wrong with this post. First. The company can make any rules they want as agreement to employment, that's capitalism. Unconstitusoinal??? Nothing in the constitution protects anyone from protecting the good of all persons in America. Most people against protecting their neighbors and family from the deadly virus, have beliefs based in misinformation and lack of understanding. Listen to the experts. The vaccine has already saved millions from bad covid experience not to count the lives that have been saved.

AT&T and the Insurance companies should sue YOU and EVERY single person that had the opportunity to get the vaccine early on and refused. And and ALL hospital costs for COVID must be borne by the unvaccinated tools.

I assume you guys are joking about the suit. You can't sue over this. I've heard several lawyers say so. I suppose you could try but the consensus is it's a legal mandate.

1cpWDy3I-

Covid vaccine does not work the same way as any of those vaccines you mentioned do.

All of those vaccines give you a tiny bit of the virus to allow your body to build immunities.

COVID vaccine doesn’t contain any of the Covid virus. It is a mRNA shot which is designed to change the way your body responds to Covid.

I am not saying one is better than the other or that Covid vaccine doesn’t work… just simply stating that comparing those 2 completely different medical treatments to each other isn’t actually a accurate talking point.

Filed religious exemption. Working on medical now. If not, fire me. Natural immunity from prior infection is equal to, if not better than vaccine as discussed In Current research from Cleveland clinic and NIH. Complete overreach by corporations and poor execution of policy implementation by leadership. Over a week and still no answers on policy questions from management and “hr task force”…

There is no way to fight this at the corporate level. They don't care. Your best option is if you can get a large number in your local office to refuse. That may get them to exempt your group for business needs.

How about this take: Let’s say the science changed(you know, like back when Faucci was saying masks are ineffective)..Let’s say the company came out & said this______ vax is dangerous/unproven/whatever, and if you get the ____ vax, you will be terminated? Would you stick with your decision, get the vax, & be thrown out the door or would you want the company to consider your situation/condition/conviction as well and try to reach a point where you & everyone else can continue to work & provide for their families in as safe of a manner as reasonably possible?

Got the vaccine as quickly as I could. Hope it works or helps.

I don't think it should be mandated. Oh well.

I'm sure not going to stand up for what may be right (or wrong). I'm not that passionate about it.

I would like a severance package though. Given: 1) the # of folks leaving in 2021 due to retiree health care elimination, 2) the # of folks transferred from (non-DTV orgs of) AT&T to the new DTV company (TPG), and 3) the number of unvaccinated that are going to leave/die... it seems that surplus and MVOs will be few and far between for at least the short-to-mid-term.

And you folks who got vaccinated and are pi---d about sharing your vax card, you are as funny as a barrel of monkeys.

A mental health accommodation. Your mental health will be severely impacted since you have severe anxiety over what the potential side effects of the vaccine. Just get a doctor to complete an ADA accommodation form for it.

Now you talk about the vaccinated getting Covid like it’s a legit point. The vaccine saves Your Life! Over 90 percent of people in the hospital or dying are unvaccinated. Yes a vaccinated person can get it and carry it. But most will be asymptomatic and have mild if any symptoms at all.

You are all missing what’s really going on!! AT&T could easily let managers continue working from home, without the vaccine. The real reason for the mandate goes beyond att. The government wants everyone to get vaccinated and what better way to help them achieve their goal than have large corporations help by mandating vaccine. Personally, I got vaccinated off the clock, and didn’t tell anyone. I have not uploaded my card to attest. I fear getting fired after October. It’s not right. It was my personal choice to get vaccinated and I should not need to reveal my personal choice if I can continue doing my job from home.

You can go ahead and whine and try religious exemption but unless in your entire life including as a child you have refused all other existing vaccines, medical
Procedures or medicine on religious grounds then you have no standing and the courts will see right through your whiny bu-t. Enjoy your retirements or sudden unemployment screaming at deaf ears. Remember everyone you are listening to for advice and conspiracy theories aren’t going to pay your bills. The clowns you have been listening too are already vaccinated and get paid to misinform you.
