Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Always be prepared

It is something that everyone knows, one should be always ready, however, there are still people who are surprised by layoffs.
Some people who got laid off told me that there were no indications at all that they could be cut. Is it possible that someone still believes that IBM cares so much about employees that it gives red flags to prepare them for layoffs?

If you are in marketing and you had no idea layoffs were coming then you been living in a cave. They literally announced it months ago. Literally in the CMO blog.

Sad… my company can’t get enough strong hires… and IBM throws them away.

It's not worth it to live in fear all your life. Do some interview prep for 6 months and jump to greener pastures, it's hot market out there and other companies respect their employees much more.

They haven’t been around IBM long enough if they are not aware of RAs. They happen every quarter. Most are smaller (death by 1000 cuts) but if you are paying attention and hear rumors you are at risk. Consider that no one is EVER safe EVER.

My understanding is the FLMs are given the list of RAed people at the last minute. They know the relative rankings of their people per band but do not know where the “RA line cut” will be made.

Layoffs (RAs) shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who is familiar with their team's financial performance. Admittedly, for those who work in internal functions, it might be more difficult to know if their execs aren't transparent.
