Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Sad attempts to get us to quit

I think the management is getting desperate to get rid of as many of us as fast as they can. Why else would they be playing these kindergarten-level games where they make sure to drop references of how overpaid some of us are every chance they get or how we still have some of the best benefits in the industry and we should learn to be appreciative of it... Basically, veiled threats that are supposed to do what? Get us to quit? Do they think it's actually working?

I read and reread the post below. Here’s what it feels like. They are including folks that they have no intention on letting go in order to justify cutting older folks. By inflating the number of passed pips it helps the lawyers mask the layoff of older employees. This gives the appearance that all is fair. Just my opinion and what it feels like.

I am with the chemical company I have always been a top performer but was NSI'ed this year. The department manager begged me to take the PIP and promised a pass. He blamed everything on my supervisor for my assessment result. Maybe they just wanted to fill the basket.

Go with Grace...but Go! 30 years and I have had about as many supervisors/managers. Only TWO in twenty years had the huevos to stand up for their direct reports.

Funny part is, on average, most of ExxonMobil employees actually aren't overpaid. To the NSI guy, GTFO. Your call if you wanna play the game, but your time has come and you need to get on with your life and career. Find something new, likely equal or higher pay, and no more stressing over such an antiquated performance system and company. EM has stooped to incredible lows, everyone besides the brown nosers / mgmt snakes deserve better.

Whenever I catch wind that someone is trying to get me to quit, my response is to dig in and drag it out. Misery is a two-way street.

Comply with everything you’re told, infer nothing, and repeatedly ask for clarification and guidance for every assigned task. Make it inconvenient. Make it painful. Grind them down. Attrition is a two way street.

As you do this, seek out the best opportunity within reach and jump (without notice) to the next position. They use you, you use them. Being used is a two-way street.

@ouz+1ctp1Ee0 Dont be naive This ranking will limit your next move and it will be hard to convince next your supervisors to rank you higher

A lot of the recent posts by managers, employees, and returning employees on Linked in rather indicate dire PR stunts to retain and even more so attract new talent to come join and work at ExxonMobil. Anyone else is seeing this? And most of the like'ers and commentors on these posts are also XOM managers and employees. They are making it look like XOM is the best place to work!

Your department manager lied to you. there is no way they have no power. I bet the supervisor was top ranked despite what your department manager said.

@ouz Your dept manager gave the worst and lamest response. He/she knew the assessment results and could have override your supervisor. The real question is if you can believe the promise to pass the PIP. I would definitely be polishing your resume and getting it out to recruiters.

@ouz+1ctp1Ee No way Department Manager got caught off guard from an assessment from a supervisor. Supervisors at Exxon are just parrots from mid management. Don't take the department manager's promise or words... if it isnt on paper or email... it never happened
