I don’t understand the obsession with driving attendance at our Houston campus.
We ask people to come back in person, even after known contact with Covid+ individuals, despite the data saying that vaccinated individuals will spread the Delta variant.
For my nearly 2 decades working here, we have always hammered home “corporate citizenship” and giving back to our communities. Our Houston community has 0 ICU beds available, and yet we think it is acceptable to contribute to the spread of Covid-19.
Even a “minimum” spread should be unacceptable; our management should be bright enough to understand exponents, and the impact of community spread.
These are the same managers who will turn around after Covid and say there is no need for business travel, since we can do everything remotely.
What happened to “courage of conviction”, “actively caring”, “nobody gets hurt” or anything else that was sold as our corporate culture? Are these managers hammering home attendance because we try to justify the extravagant spend on our campus?
Or…. because they are so neutered by Corporate policies on HR and everything else that they are grasping at any straws for control? Really, deeply disappointing.
