Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

ETW strike for a week?

Nike furloughed all ETW's for a week while paying all FTE's holiday pay. That really hurts a lot of people, especially with the rising costs of living with inflation. How about we take another week off to teach Nike a lesson? Wishful thinking... I have enough savings to do this. Obviously a big ask... But gets the point across...

I'd imagine without a workforce of " ETWs" to whip around things would fall apart quickly.

@3tyz

I started as an ETW myself, and I hire/manage a large number of ETWs. My comment from before is stating facts; as an ETW you are NOT employed by Nike, you are employed by an agency. I completely understand that many people start at Nike as an ETW as a way to get their foot in the door, hoping to find an FTE position (that was the case for me personally)… but that doesn’t change the fact that while an ETW you are employed by an agency.

Everyone should be aware of the benefits and risks prior to signing on as an ETW. You will not (and legally should not) be treated as a Nike employee.

@3tyz

Correct. If you're interviewing for an FTE role at Nike odds are it's already been filled ahead of time and they need to pretend there's a level playing field by interviewing a few suckers.

ETW and FTE we're in it together. We all have more in common with each other than with JD and the ELT. Just trying to get some food on the table not trying to go to the spacejam.

Speaking of stupid.. . Do you think ETWs preferred being a contractor vs a FTE? Of course not. Your statements make you sound spoiled and unware of the real world.

You make it sound like getting a job at Nike is as simple as "applying". Thanks for the laugh.

We all know Nike is filled Nepotism.

Agree with @2ykg.

ETWs are NOT employed by Nike, period. You are employed by another company, who contracts you out to Nike. Your employer provides you benefits, and therefore your frustration is best aimed at your employer. They seem to lack of benefits when a contracted company, like Nike, is experiencing downtime. This is something you should vet/understand when getting hired by a staffing agency and negotiating your pay.

This has got to be one of the more stupid posts I’ve seen in a few months. You are a contractor for Nike. This means you don’t actually work for Nike. You work for another company. Why is this so hard for people to understand? If you want to work for Nike, then apply and compete for a position. It’s. That. Simple.

I’m rooting for this to happen - would be hilarious!

Also, if it makes you feel better, there are plenty of FTE’s working this week. Taking a week off together to “collectively unplug” is a nice idea in theory but isn’t possible for some functions in the company.

ETW's will never strike. Too many of them still think they're going to get converted one of these days and work their way up to senior leadership.

All of the ETWs on my team are working this week, so nobody is missing any pay.

I'm not sure what is going on in the rest of the company, but we were told that it's a holiday week for corporate employees (FTEs at WHQ), but that it's a regular week for everyone else, including ETWs.

ETW's can work if they can work unsupervised, it's up to the manager to decide if they are working or not. all my ETW's are working this week.

Ok, there was some confusion in the first communication but that got rectified.

Maybe you missed my other post. "Never work at nike as an ETW"

It is a company, that is now run explicitly, on watching every expense.

This was not always the case, over these many decades, and I think that those who worked there, enjoyed the many benefits of this largesse.

I do not think that PHK was ever overly generous with salaries, something he kept from those dark and difficult pre-IPO days. But they built a campus to be proud of and a myth of a really fun place to work.

From this forum's pleadings, that seems to be a thing of the past. The stock price has been truly GRAT, so Wall Street is very pleased with these cost cutting moves.

That's a bu-----t answer. Nike works in concert with the " staffing companies" to exploit having to pay perks like Holiday pay. That's the whole point..

ETWs are not Nike's responsibility. Talk to your employer.
