Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I have an idea

Can we rehire people who were laid off in the past couple of years to replace those who have been threatening to quit for the past month or so for one reason or another (I know we all know the reason, I just don't want to rehash the subject?) I think it'd be great both for those who are determined to leave and those who'd give anything to return to Chevron (let's face it, this is still one of the better companies to work for.) Who's with me on this?

That’s the dummest idea since someone came up with the idea of setting up an anonymous board for people to gripe about their jobs under the guise of providing tips about upcoming layoffs!

What they told me at layoff time was that coming back as a direct employee within 1 year would mean loss of entire severance (IRS rule). Entire not prorated.

Anyway in d&c big chief madam was very clear that any rehire they do will be as contractors and mainly for field roles (DSM, WSM). They don’t expect any rehiring of office staff.

Laid off, they would have to pay me twice as much and let me keep severance and even then having to deal with so many boy scout a$$holes, no way

Good for you. The pension keeps many here in a jacked up environment.

took the package last year and found a job 4 months later at a tech firm
even though i am in my mid 40s. welcoming culture and everyone is willing
to help you along the way. working hours are great and only work overtime once in awhile. HR benefits and culture are way beyond the traditional mindset that CVX has.
CWW + flexible working hrs + lots of vacation days + 14% annual package hike.

Ok but let those new workers know the following has happened since they left:

1) Almost all of the processes have changed to Agile. CPDEP is also changing. BUs aren't running their own independent companies anymore.
2) We let go of 30% of the work force but the work load wasn't reduced. If anything it's more as we all have new job roles. Agile methodology has made us have to be in more meetings so expect about 6-7 hours of meetings daily.
3) We didn't staff enough people in certain roles for the new enterprise efforts and strategic themes.
4) They will get emails on political topics of the day from DP, HES and HR so be ready
5) CRT training in some form is happening so be prepared to listen to those
6) Some key people are leaving the company lately and it's causing a ripple
7) Performance isn't the factor for a "1" anymore. It's behaviors. Be nice to everyone and treat everyone the well and you will get a high rating.
8) We are kind of trying to be like a IT company with Digital Transformation but we can't hire the top IT students as the go to the tech sector.

Things have changed for those whom were laid off and want to come back.

After the way we were treated being shown the door so rudely (in 2020) most former employees I know wouldn’t want to come back.

OP

I left Uncle “C” 2009 after 25+ years, last 16+ as an SME. CVX didn’t really appreciate my skills but other companies did and I more than tripled my total wealth in 11 years.

Uncle “C” — with my insistence— provided great training and I was able to retire very comfortably in 2020 after 5- and 6-year stints with other O&G’s.

CVX already had such a rehire program called “Silver Mining” in 2009-2011. I don’t know how that went but I’d rather consult for any other outfit, unless they paid top $. Don’t need cash, but like to keep my skills current.

Not bad for me being (O’Reilly’s term) part of the a$$ end lump in the snake.

As always, CVX “innovation” follows the fast-follower mode. And if you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes.

Y’all got a good idea there but CVX would find a way to mess it up.
