Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron Hiring Process

Recently applied to a job at Chevron (before I read the messages here). What’s the hiring process like? How about pay? Do the posts here really reflect the culture? Any insight is welcome.

The discriminate against middle aged people and it’s hard to keep skill sets here. So you find yourself becoming less and less valuable by skills while getting closer to their discrimination age. Great place to go after you’re close to retirement and don’t care about skills

If you're going to a layoff site to learn about Chevron culture, that's like reading a comic book to get a law degree.

Get real. This is a layoff site, where people go to grip, what do you expect? Chevron is good, bad, and everything in between: A huge corporation. Those who find the right niche or are ID as a high p-t love it, many others find it just a job, and still others are miserable because of their direct report or local organization structure. You can't judge your fit into the organization reading anything here. Seek out feedback from those you will work with: Some will be honest and some no so much.

Everyone here has a gripe, beef, or is disillusioned with Chevron. Of those many would still stay. Everyone here who is an active employee probably started working at Chevron in a different era. We're all going to have different baselines of how the company was and will filter our perceptions of how it is today based on that baseline.

If you joined prior to 2007 or 08 (IIRC) then you have a better pension plan and were here when Dave O was still leading things.

If you came over from Texaco you probably hold beliefs about Texaco having superior benefits and compensation. Ditto for Unical, Atlas, etc.

Regardless of what is said here, if you're a self-starter and are focused on you growth you gain benefit from working here. Depending on your plans you may find paths here or be inspired to look elsewhere when you feel you have accomplished everything you can here.

It was so painful when I joined 10 yr ago I would have went elsewhere if I had an option. But I didn’t. I have tried to leave several times but I am technical and in my area only other majors do this type of work. So it’s leaving one junk job for another.

Pay is avg. posts here are fairly accurate. Would only join if you have no other options. CVX is a job, not a fantastic or meaningful one but the pay is decent, people are generally nice and to clock in to collect a check, it will do. But if you care about purpose or doing better or anything meaningful, or want a career, guaranteed you will get frustrated.

OP…you are asking that a question on a lay-off site? What answers do you honestly think you’ll get?

good to ask ard if there is anyone earmarked for the job internally. most of the job postings are just window dressing to show that they have considered internal and external candidates fairly but in actual fact, they may have alrdy someone in mind and just going through the HR process and paperwork as a “fair and equal opportunity“ employer
