Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Mental health matters

Global apparel and shoe company Nike is putting some of its employees' mental health ahead of productivity. It has closed its corporate offices for the week so employees can "enjoy additional time off to rest and recover,"

For many of us unfortunately there is no week off to get some rest. Nike seems to reminds us of which employees it actually cares about, and which are less important to them. On the other hand, is a week off enough to take a break from the amount of stress and pressure people face here?

Operations didn’t get the week off. It’s the week before quarter end! Once again leadership can’t do their jobs.

Nike is giving the week off so that they can allow executives to prepare for the next round of layoffs...don't be fooled.

Nike only thinks about Nike...not the people who bust their butts there everyday.

FTEs work plenty hard but they also have work life balance. It is a benefit of being a Nike Full Time Employee. It is not a benefit for External Temporary Workers...you are hired to work as hard as possible until the work is done.

Maybe if those FTEs actually did anything they'd be too busy working to let their minds wander.

Calling all Nike Retail employees to take the week off as well! The world is full of haves and have nots. Nike has army of retail employees it basically said we don’t care about your mental health proving that you too are a have not.

At Nike YOU are required to set the boundaries. No one is going to do it for you. If you allow it you can work 24/7. So don’t allow it. I don’t.

Every FTE has PTO. Use it. And when you’re on PTO do what I do: pretend that you don’t even work there during your time off. I don’t look at email when on PTO or do anything else related to work. If anyone gets mad about that too bad. They’ll get over it. Or they won’t. I don’t care either way. I’m being paid for 40 hours per week. I’m not being paid to be on call 24/7.

“But that will impact my career!”

So what? You either live to work or you work to live. I chose the latter. And became a happier employee when I chose that route. At the end of the day the amount of hours you put it will have zero impact when the layoff hammer comes down. You also won’t be sitting on your death bed wishing you had put in more work hours. You’ll be wishing the opposite.

This is all on YOU to manage and control.
