5G isn’t just for cell phones. It’s also for IOT. And even though future phones may utilize some level of satellite technology, they will still need to utilize cellular technologies. You would think that folks who work for a communication company would realize these things. But then again, I guess the buried service wire guys are able to post here too, so I suppose I shouldn’t expect everyone to understand the more technical aspects of the services we provide.

These are all good points but I believe the rumor is that the iPhone would use low orbit satellites and those are a bit different

Look up SkyLink. Why do you think Elon Musk is launching 60 satellites a month for well over a year. He is creating a world wide satellite internet infrastructure.

Battery use and latency is huge on satellite phones, latency in data means your message my take a little longer to send or webpage longer to load.

VOICE is extremely sensitive to latency.

Yeah, when the testers get their hands on actual implementation we'll see (in 20 to 30 years maybe). Where do you think the current networks will be by then?

Take a look now at what their doing. Keep in mind the most important results as apposed to an overall rating. I.E. % above 25 Mbps, % above 3 Mbps, average Latency and Network availability.
