TxDOT terminates tollway operation contract with IBM, citing ‘numerous difficulties’ for customers

The tech company denies fault with its newly implemented software system for toll
transactions.
“We take the responsibility of providing a quality and trusted customer experience
very seriously, and regret the impact and inconvenience these past many months of
lackluster IBM service have had on our toll road users,” TxDOT Executive Director
Marc Williams said in a written statement.

Helluva job!

I’m GBS and I concur with what everyone has said. Hiring bar is nonexistent because most postings get zero applicants (even in this market- I have several open seats so I know this is true!). Leadership is the worst in the entire company which is saying a lot. They’re only focusing on mainframe now with offerings- pathetic! Accenture, Big 4, Wipro, Infosys, TCS are all laughing at us. Sad!

As someone from an internal BU working with GBS on a client contract, this doesn’t surprise me.
The GBS consultants I deal with on a daily basis are absolute aholes. And we are both IBM BU’s, the same side, so I can only imagine the sh-t clients have to deal with.

IBM is absolutely hated in State gov. For good reasons, like this TXdot fiasco

I wonder in the big picture if toll automation is worth it - is it really less expensive to automate this to some third party who charges to develop and operate the system, and probably takes a cut of tolls? Whatever happened to actual human toll operators.

GBS has the lowest hiring bar even by IBM standards (which is already low for tech industry). Not surprising here how IBM is milking their relationships from their heyday (NASA consultants) where there clients think they are getting the best of the best.

The deal was 4 year, until dec 2021.. so ibm is only losing out on 1.5 years. This is a nothing burger. It’s probably chump change compared to other deals and there won’t be any layoffs. Prove me wrong. Don’t be so dramatic you old ge---r

@vge+1czTx0HR -- surely you can see the potential impact that a contract cancellation like this can and will probably have on headcount. It all feeds in to the company's largest expense: people.

The sad part is this is typical of IBM services Blame the customer vs delivering superb services. Is it any wonder IBM is spinning services off
