Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Fewer and fewer people are thinking of XOM as a long-term employment option

Other than those who are close to retirement and are mostly praying not to be affected by layoffs or PIPs before their time here is up, I don't think there are many employees left here who are looking at XOM as a long-term option. The company has managed to ruin every remaining bit of trust employees might have had with constant lies and gaslighting regarding layoffs and PIPs. I'm surprised attrition is not even higher than it is, honestly.

In some areas like Geoscience people are stuck because there’s nowhere else to go, unlike IT or some engineers. Some people do quit, mainly to go into other lines of work, but things get mostly bottled up. If there’s going to be at some point any upturn, this part of EM will become a ghost town.

Newsflash:

There is no such thing as a long term career at a single company anymore for 98% of the workforce.

Not at any company. You are the only one in charge of your career.

Xom has done a really good job of making people believe this falsehood.

Every year going through appraisal system is like pulling trigger in game of Russian Roulette. Odds are stacked against surviving 30 pulls of trigger.

Even a high flier can accept transfer into wrong group or get supervisor that dislikes him and bo-m - gone.

If young enough, start over somewhere better.

No one has any faith in XOM as a long term performer. Anyone under 40 is looking at their options and many are quietly moving on.
