Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Places you’d recommend?

We can all agree 90% of people on here are/were not happy at the swoosh...

Are there any places you’d recommend or freelance advice anyone here can give?

My personal qualm is that I’ve been given several highly successful reviews and praise over six years yet have not been promoted once (I’m leadIng projects yet still in an entry level role). I don’t have much hope for it now knowing the supply chain issues will no doubt effect internal upward mobility.

So...any of you gems have sincere advice?

Columbia is a mini Nike and te--orized by an Ex Nike leader.

I left footwear and apparel in 2015 and have never been happier. The level of lunacy in that industry is astounding at least in the Northwest.

I feel like I'm in a similar boat but haven't gotten any bites yet outside of the company. There seems to be more competition, especially for the 100% remote roles.

Get out! I did and my mental health improved almost immediately… Don’t let Nike break your confidence, you are worth more and deserve better. I recently left for a FAANG company and have excellent leadership, work better hours, and doubled my pay. Nike still looks good on a resume, use it to make a move and get the recognition you deserve.

It really depends on your skills and background. If you are in tech (software engineering, data), then tons of places you can go, just open LinkedIn and check, the market is incredibly hot and pays much higher than Nike. If you have very specific skills in sporting good, then you know where to look for.

If after doing an honest assessment of your own work, as compared to your peers, you feel like you should have been promoted by now then it’s time to start looking at other options both within and outside Nike. All companies are pyramids and that means several deserving people will never get promotions they deserve. The unpleasant but truthful reality is that you often have to leave and join a different company that will recognize your skills and bring you on at a higher level. A few years later you may need to repeat that process again.
At Nike you will usually know within 5 years or so whether or not you’ll be a climber or someone who languishes in “I work hard but can’t seem to get promoted” land. If it’s the latter you need to either accept it or leave. If you accept it you will most likely get taken advantage of.
Career development is a sore spot for a lot of people at Nike. Every year the annual survey reminds us of this. It’s even harder to deal with when you see people get promoted and everyone knows the person who got promoted isn’t particularly talented. Or occasionally they are particularly untalented!
I’m currently interviewing outside Nike because my career is clearly going nowhere. The harder I work the more work I get. But never a promotion. I’ve already tolerated it longer than I should have. I don’t especially want to leave Nike but sometimes you have to be willing to bounce to get ahead.

Sounds like the standard, let’s out you in a stretch assignment role and 3 years later you are still in that stretch without any reward and it is considered your role now but without the pay or other benefits. Been there, done that and left.
