Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

BTC Reality

Summary of things obswrved as an experienced hire in the company for >1 year. Let’s try to keep it real and civil -

  1. Early career Engineers in USA - EIO program, full exposure to networks in the company, multiple experiences. Competitive salary.

Early career in BTC - No training, no EIO, no exposure, no network. Dumped with ‘complex’ work which can be done in sleep as well. Below average salary. And yet we clean mess left by sudden moves and resignations and low quality engineering over decades. Then get blamed for quality of work as US counterparts intentionally don’t help. No training and then blaming, its just set up to fail, unless the company’s leadership uses their head and treats everyone equally.

We cannot succeed as a company if all we do is fight among ourselves.

  1. Leaders - Well that seems like a problem across the board globally. This company creates monsters in the name of managers. Unprofessional, unskilled, unqualified, inhuman. Its a systematic issue because of the PDS system that requires boot licking your higher ups and neglecting those who report to you. I think we can all agree on this one.
  1. Lies and deception - In our interviews we are told about global exposure and expat assignments. The reality is 1-2% of the population will even be considered, then why lie? They say salary will improve, and then give 2% raises, its our fault that we join for the brand, because once again these managers lie to is during interviews and campus presentations. Lying without conscience is We are exxonmobil culture, no wonder the company is dying a slow death with frustrated employees.
  1. The pay is just too low, no bonus, no insurance for family, no festive bonus - These are nirms in all Indian companies, because we are a culture that respects people, unlike American cumture that respects only self and money, and live a meaningless life thinking they are the best in the world. Of course there are exceptions in America, but look at your vaccine mess.

Of course, I expect comments here bashing my nationality, but its just too wrong to assume that all Indians are like the ones you see in the US offices. Those are the ones that couldn’t compete in India and went abroad and got hired by EM. Today’s India is very different and globally competitive, IF the right salary is paid.

This company is slow torture and we were tricked to join. And we will leave because things will not change. I also sympathise with US colleagues, don’t know how you put up with the BS for 20 years 30 years.

Very competitive in terms of “Fraudulent activities”? You guys are good for copy pasting without acknowledging.

First arrange food for all of your people then compete with other Asian countries and then dream about United States. Why you guys are in the line up to come to US and other middle eastern countries if you are so develop? Who told you to work in BTC?

We need his holy…CSR crusader to take responsibilities as BTC crusader as well. Both places probably have similarly bad employees from the same country

What an insulting post. For someone who has probably never visited up the US, he speaks so passionately about the culture. FO

OP, Indian culture is not a culture that respects people equally. I know because I’m Indian. But stick with your delusional ultranationalism and your culture won’t make any progress.

Dear OP,

You work for an American company doing jobs that were recently lost by hardworking American employees. In your post you are insulting our rich culture, work ethic, and family values. Please take a moment to look inward, and realize the incredible gift you have been given by XOM .

India is a third world county where majority of people de-----e in the streets. Please don’t insult our prosperous country until you take a look at your own.

You are not going to make any friends by bashing American culture. I think you have a few problems in India. I know. I have been there.

Well, things are not as bad at BTC.

New organisation has its challenges. I am sure we all can work and coexist and try to turn the ship around if some of the issues are adressed, like pay and training.

Guess what. Exxon doesn't train any new hires, even in the US.

Work is moved to India to pay the lowest salary and benefits.

If you find a way to raise salaries, the work will be moved somewhere else and you will be expect to "help" the new people. Then you are let go.

Not here to bash your culture but if you work for a US company wouldn't you expect US business norms?

Also, it sounds like you think someone has a g-n to your head forcing you to work for ExxonMobil. If ExxonMobil does not align with your needs it might be good to look for another job. Exxon won't change but you have the option to advocate for you and your family's needs by voting with your feet.
