Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Conference Boondoggle

Seeing posts on LinkedIn about “proud to represent XOM” at geoscience conference in Denver. Really? We need to be sending at least 18 geoscientists to rep XOM? Not like the company is doing any ground breaking research that will lead to exploration bo-m.

Guess after layoff hundreds of people in Houston, PIPing many others, UOG has extra money with $70+ oil. They need to send out their brainwashed minions on these boondoggles to uphold the idea XOM contributes to science, and look for unsuspecting students to recruit.

Good for those who got away from the compound for a few days, must have been nice to breath clean air. What good are you bringing back for the rest?

@izc Certainly a bold statement by those who went or perhaps just one of ignorance or arrogance…it just continues to show the “better than everyone” attitude because We are XOM! Those who left XOM are weeping because they did? Obviously they don’t know the poor culture environment stewing inside the compound.

Of course they would not want to meet, or at least admit to seeing those who were laid off or PIP’d. Once XOM decided you weren’t a “fit” to the company employees feel they are lesser people and don’t want to mix with them. Again, the arrogance of the chosen ones. Many people who were laid off had communication cut by colleagues.

Guess conferences are a major tool for spreading the greatness of XOM’s novel research, didn’t realize there was an Upstream Conference Manager position. No surprise, a position to manage those select people to drink the punch and say the right things.

Some of the people who went there came back to tell us how good EM looks compared to everybody else and how people who quit years ago EM now wept for their mistake. Somehow they didn’t meet those who were laid off or PIPed last year… or who took the PIL in the second edition of the Hunger Games. No shortage of boot lickers.

This is PR and saying we are doing something to mitigate climate change and that we "lead."

Except we sell standardized products that everyone else sells too, and there really isn't anything proprietary at XOM at all.

The people presenting Guyana do not even currently work on the Guyana project. Guess where they were- in Houston working.

Also the people they had presenting on Guyana had nothing to do with the team that made the actual discoveries. Most of those people are gone - either forced retired, laid off, or moved to different teams. The people that actually did the work there didn't fit in with the political animals... Guess who's running the show now?

Yea, did anyone also see a bunch of EMIT people literally doing dog and a pony show with the Boston Robotics robo? One guy even said that this kind of things only happy at XOM! I am like seriously? This is coming from EMIT that doesn't even have qualified people to staff IT helpdesk.

ExxonMobil is full of free loaders. I know plenty of cleavers who are willing to travel and collect airline and hotel points on company dime. These people have done nothing useful in last decade plus but run around talking about leveraging, influencing BS so they can travel. Fake International travel is out of control. I hope they are all fired midway in air

You are right about lack of research and anything noteworthy. Looked at the technical program and only a handful (< 5) talks. Mostly recycled stuff and of course Guyana. The conference is a joke too-AAPG is about to be absorbed by SPE so I think that tells you a lot about the future of geoscience in the petroleum industry. A last hooray-enjoy!
