After 2008, if you didn’t notice what was going on around you, shame on you. The place is transactional. Move on, it’s better out there.
The people were good, though, mostly.
The gifts are Dilbertesque; glass marbles, those water bottles that melt when warm, jackets sized for Pygmyies…
Similar thing happened to me but i was not allowed to stay that long and the worst possible method applied to get rid of me.
The era of bilateral company-employee loyalty is long gone. Cultivate an independent spirit. Take care of your self and your loved ones -- humans that will reciprocate when you need it most. Cisco should be relegated to a source of income to further your independence...any more, and you're drinking mind numbing koolaid.
Are you saying they no longer give out the salsa and chips bowl made of a metal that intentionally dissolves in salsa for your 10 year anniversary? Or the narrow water bottles with heavy attached covers that cause them to tip over? Or all the wonderful items with tags saying they cause cancer? They used to be so good at finding products from companies that matched their own design and quality skills.
Your reward & sendoff is leaving on your own terms. Many people over the years of layoffs at Cisco have not been as fortunate. Count yourself lucky and leave skid marks.
My 15th, and I got a gift card. I think it meant to be $250 post tax, so it was a strange amount that covered the extra tax.
On my 5th anniversary, I was given a $25 Walmart gift card. I guess on my 10th anniversary it will be a $50 Walmart gift card. Yeah, a whole $5 bucks for each year of service. Way to go Cisco, you rock!!
On problem: I don't fakking shop at Walmart, so I gave that gift card to the janitor. She smiled.
A guy in my group just hit the 20-year mark and got a $500 gift card. Something to strive for! LOL!

It's pretty creepy how people lurk here waiting for layoff info and provide false layoff info. Then when someone actually leave they badger them on this site. Talk about low taste. Give the dude a break.

In the last 14 years you have seen quite a bit of reorg, cost optimizations or whatever the flavor of the month is. It should have learned you one thing. You are expendable and once your time to live has reached 0, you will be discarded. It is a job, not a life and it does not define you. If it did define you, i recommend some personal growth. If this did come as a surprise to you that it happens at Cisco i truly envy the pink colored and optimistic view you have on life. Don't lose it because of a lay off

You actually expect a corporation to be ethical or moral? Cisco is mostly focused on outsourcing jobs to countries without labor laws... do you really expect recognition?
