Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Taking time off

How many people take some time off to recharge after being laid off or fired? I know some have no choice due to finances, but what about the rest? I'm constantly stressed out, overworked, and my anxiety is at an all-time high... I'm considering quitting and taking some time off since I can afford it but I'm still worried. How do employers look at a year off on a resume? Would it make it harder to find a new job?

I’m still taking time off because my investments returned more than 10x my former salary this year. Working 40-60h/wk isn’t the only way to make money.

I’m still taking some time off after layoffs last year. I’ve started interviewing recently, and it’s been about 50/50 whether anyone’s asked about the gap, but overall I think it’s been worth it for the mental break. And as another poster said, definitely only put years on resume, not month. Good luck!

I took four months off of no job searching and doing a few certification courses to build other skills. The hiring process for the job I got took about another 3 months from application to offer. When all was said and done I was unemployed for about 10 months. There was no question about employment gaps, and on resumes you can just put the year span you worked at a job, so if you leave in jan 2022 all they will see is 20xx-2022. Nobody dug deeper than that on my resume and many interviewers assumed I was currently employed
